  • Power Loss and a Trip to Frankenmuth 2021

Sunday began much differently than it ended but its these unexpected surprises that sometimes make the best fun. After dropping of some goods at Grandma’s the family returned home and found out a car accident had caused a power failure throughout Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. With no power at home we decided to take a little road trip to Frankenmuth for some last minute Christmas shopping.

As one would expect, the place was crowded with lines outside of Bronners just to get in and a 2.5 hour wait for chicken dinner, but the family was not deterred as they spent a few hours shopping at the mall and even had a chance encounter with a Christmas hero of Dad… No, not Santa, but the Grinch!

A great time was had by all as we listened to the Lions win their second game of the year and lots of Christmas music.

  • Hoot Fitting In Well With the Family

Hoot certainly keeps us on our toes but in general she is fitting in very well with the family. The other kitties are tolerating her very well and actually caught playing with her from time to time. James and her are always together building different kitty toys for her to play with.

Hoot does enjoy getting into just about everything she can. She is pure energy and everyone loves her, even when she is causing trouble.

Hoot is not a finicky eater and seems to enjoy everything we feed her, where the other kitties only like seafood in gravy platters. However since Hoot has been eating other type of meals, now they are too so if this continues we will be much better off finding food that they like since they will like it all.

  • James 4.0 GPA First Semester at WCCC

James was dropped of for his last day of finals and when we picked him up, he felt he had done very well but due to a power failure at the school (high winds throughout the midwest caused many power failures) he would not know his actual score for several days. When he did get the results we found out he had a perfect 4.0 gpa for the semester.

James was rewarded with a trip to his favorite restaurant – Bubba’s – on Eureka road just around the block from his school. Mom and Dad had several gifts for him which you can see in the pictures (t shirts, pennants, Christmas bulbs, etc.)

Later that day James made up 5 Christmas bulbs, one for each A he got that semester and placed them on his Christmas tree for display.

  • After Halloween Sale 2021

After Halloween is a holiday in our family. This year we kept saying we really did not need anything, but we went out anyway and could not resist the 50-80 percent of sales that were going on. We hit Halloween City first, then Spirit Halloween, and finally Jo Annes, Michaels, and Walmart.

This year was certainly different as there was many empty shelves in many of the stores as they were having a hard time getting inventory in. Because of this we did not expect much to be left after Halloween but we got lucky because we shopped in a city outside of the suburbs where the population was a little light.

  • Introducing “Hoot” 2021

We actually got Hoot the kitten the day before, but because we had live event tickets the store said that they would hold on to Hoot for a day and we could pick her up in the morning. Also Hoot had just had her tubes tied and was taking medicine for pain so it made lots of sense not to move her into a new environment.

James was in College so Mom and Dad picked up Hoot and brought her to her forever home and she is fitting in just fine. She is very playful and gets along very well with our other two cats, Thelma and Carmine.

We were all shocked when our cat Turtle Little Bit passed on a few months back, and she will always be remembered with love by her family.

  • Haunted Garage Sale 2021

The Haunted Garage Sale was held at the Dearborn civic center next to the library on Michigan Avenue. James could not attend because he was in Saturday classes at Wayne County Community College but Dad went and picked up a few things.

Perhaps the neatest display was the apothecary display of various witches potions and spells all in bottles that looked like they were hundreds of years old when in fact they were probably only a few days old.

The event was well attended but still seemed not as busy as it used to be, perhaps its the pandemic or perhaps its just that the new venue is so much bigger than the other auditoriums.

  • First Halloween Store Opens 2021

Driving around we found that a Halloween store was open so we took a quick visit to see what was new. Their display this year featured an assembly line that was maintained by the skeletons. It was pretty cool. We bought a couple small items but the store assured us that there would be much more in stock in the near future. We think this might be the earliest one of the Halloween stores opened as it is not even September yet.

Anyhow it was a fun way to spend a hot summer day. (more…)

  • 32,000 Piece Puzzle Completed

When the pandemic isolated James from school and other social events, he spent a year working on one of his favorite hobbies, puzzles. James had a 32,000 piece puzzle of New York City and he began putting this together.

He divided the puzzle into 8 sections and then divided each of those sections into 1 square foot sections which he glued together. He then took the entire package to Swapka field and worked under the pavilion for about two hours putting this puzzle together. Since it was too big for our garage, this was the first time James saw his puzzle completely together.

  • VIP Camp 2021 Party

After a year off from VIP Camp (due to the pandemic), James got to meet up with his friends and they had a great season.

As usual, many of the events included swimming, Heritage Park, Movies, and Restaurants. Best of all it was socializing after a year of not socializing. Everyone stayed healthy and all had a great time as the year was very well attended.

This year event was in the Taylor sports complex but he final party was at the bowling alley.
