While we were visiting Annapolis to watch James receive an award, Dad took advantage of the situation and went on a little tour of his old stomping ground. Dad graduated 42 years ago from the same School that James will shortly graduate from so he knew his way around the place. The auditorium will be torn down this summer which is why there are so many pictures of the auditorium. The pool and the gym look great. We were told that the gym was remodeled a few years back which might explain why it looks so good. The school has really not changed that much since Dad graduated there in 1979 (The school opened in 1966 so its really had much more history after Dad left than before he came there). (more…)

James Receives Dale Preussner Scholarship
Earlier in the week there was an honor awards event at Annapolis but they did not allow parents, instead they broadcasted the event on Facebook. This time we were able to attend an award ceremony since only two kids were receiving them. The award is the first Dale Preussner Scholarship and it was awarded to a boy and girl and was in the amount of $1,000 to be put towards his continuing education (which looks like Wayne County Community College).James actually knew Dale Preussner and when he passed on attended the funeral to pay his respects. James said he was one of his favorites at Annapolis so it was especially nice to receive this scholarship for James. (more…)

Annapolis Seniors Parade 2021
The whole family worked on this parade. Dad took the day off so he could help Mom with the cleaning of the car, then the decorating begins and the car turned out better than we imagined. James drove in the parade but because he only has a drivers permit it meant that Dad had to accompany him on the trip. The parade began at Mayfair where the cars lined up in the big parking lot adjacent to the board. The parade then went down Annapolis street where it turned into the old St. Albert parking lot and then went back down Annapolis to the Mayfair. It was a great time.
James enjoyed it very much and especially because he got to drive in it. It was kind of strange telling him to ignore stop signs and such as he was still learning how to drive (he has over 50 hours so he has met the state requirement, the testing facility he wants to go to (Apollo) has not opened since the pandemic so we hope that business survived. James Photo Shoot For High School Picture
James is a senior this year at Annapolis and we hired a photographer to take some pictures of him that he could view and choose for his high school picture. We met the photographer at Heritage Park in Taylor and walked around to select locations where she and her assistant could take some very cool pictures of James and a couple of the family as well. It was a beautiful day for pictures and the park provided a great atmosphere and backdrop with its many different areas.
Later we got these pictures to select from and James picked out one that will be in his high school yearbook. The next step was to order James a year book which was not as easy as it seemed. We did get his name on the book with the year of his graduation and a paw print representing the Annapolis mascot (cougar). There were many other options including picture holders and personalized autograph pages but we thought those were a little over the top and that the name, cougar print, and year would be just perfect.

James Nominated For Home Coming King
James was selected as a candidate for homecoming king at his high school (Annapolis). His parents were invited to join him on the field at half time of the football game where a small procession was held and the winner was announced. While James did not win, it was a very exciting time for the whole family and good to be out with a group of people during the pandemic in a wide open area. The crowd was sparse for a football game as one might expect, but the enthusiasm of the crowd more than made up for any lack of size. It was a perfect fall evening for an event of this type, and Annapolis won the football game as well.

James Finishes 5000 Piece Puzzle
After weeks of work James finished a huge Ravensburger puzzle in the garage. Since camp was drastically shortened and the Magic Get Together in Colon cancelled, the entire family found themselves with extra time and James took advantage of it by putting together the largest puzzle in family history. The garage still has puzzles that were put together decades earlier by James’ Aunt Peg and James’ dad hanging on the wall.We were all proud that James took his time and put together this huge puzzle and he plans to do one a little bigger in the future, a 32,000 piece puzzle.

Top Songs of the 70’s
The seventies station (7 on satellite radio) played the top 700 songs of the seventies during the 4th of July weekend. This made it very interesting for us having the 70’s playing in the background all weekend and while each of us picked what we thought would be #1, none of us were right (James thought Three Dog Night “Joy to the World”, Mom thought Captain & Tenniles “Love Will Keep Us Together” and Dad thought Simon & Garfunkels “Bridge over Troubled Waters).
While it appears that the European Hard Rock Bands were ignored (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Yes, etc) below are the top 25 as voted on by the seventies on seven listeners but before you click, what 70’s song do you think won. (more…)

A House Visitor, First of 2020
With covid going on we have not had many visitors to the house, this kitty being the exception. For as long as we have had kitties they have had visitors. They mostly just stare at each other but their tails are not always in the air (a cat with its tail straight up in the air means that are willing to be sociable with other cats). We (the humans in the family) also appreciate the visitors since the scent of a cat will keep squirrels away from digging up Moms bulbs in the garden.

DTE Finishing Up 2020
Well the covid virus certainly delayed work on this as we had to live with the black top and a mound of dirt for a lawn for nearly 6 months. Upon doing the final work, they broke off a sprinkler head and the cement poured was not straight so we had to complain to DTE and they said someone would come out in about 3 weeks and redo the work so this event may not be over for us for some time. When they seeded the lawn they did try to repair the sprinkler head but they were unable to do so as they were not equipped to handle much more that seeds and dirt.We will see what happens and hopefully DTE will make it right, remember we just got sod last year and had we known this was going to happen we never would have gotten it. Coconut Pie Just One of the Delicacies of 2020
One advantage of the stay at home order, no one is starving. While going shopping for food is no picnic (you must wear a mask and social distance), there is more time for creativity including cooking items that previously people did not have time to make. Normally James would be in school and Dad at work but because of the shutdown we are enjoying each others company and working on fun projects to keep us busy.
This will go down as a very strange year, plus its an election year so the best is yet to come.
