  • Track Season 2019

The Annapolis track season ended and James had a great time participating both as a shot putter and also as a discus thrower. This year was a little more difficult logistically due to the flooding, raining, and probably most important, construction on Annapolis which made visiting some of these events nearly impossible and postponed several track meets.

Despite the logistical issues it was a fine season and James had a great time participating in his second (sophomore) season of track at Annapolis High School.

  • The Great Flood of 2019

James warned us about this storm, it started about 11pm and pretty much went on all night. The next morning I left for work, saw a few flooded streets but didn’t think much of it (I was heading North at the time).

Coming home I came in from the South and saw what was going on as the Creek had flooded and most of the area around powers was unpassable. Almost every street was flooded to varying degrees. We walked a block before we could go no further because the water went over the sidewalk. There were several areas I saw on the way hom where the flood waters were so high you could drown in them (they were higher than a car). The worst one I saw was on Outer Drive beneath 94 where it was completely flooded and the road was closed. The worst one on the news was Telegraph near Van Born where people had to leave their homes. An emergency location for people to go to was set up at the rec center at Swapka field, although you would have to travel through floods to get there.

Lots of wet brakes today in Dearborn Heights.

  • Afternoons With Grandma

James enjoys spending time with his Grandma and he always comes home happy. On this visit it was a little sad due to the loss of Aunt Peg. Grandma and James worked on tributes to Aunt Peg during their time together. It was good for James to get a little closure by writing his feelings about Aunt Peg in a tribute.

On usual visits James and Grandma start things off with a meal of Kentucky Fried chicken, then move on to whatever activities they have planned for that day (sometimes its ancestry.com, other times its coin collecting or going through old photo albums, etc). A few hours later James calls home and has us pick him up. Its a nice little monthly or so routine that both he and Grandma enjoy.

  • James Varsity Jacket

James varsity jacket came in and it was still cold enough outside that he got a chance to wear it. James only wore it the one day as the temps warmed up and James said that the jacket was very warm being leather and all. Not that we don’t enjoy James wearing his jacket but with spring here we are hoping he won’t have to wear it till after Halloween 2019.

James got his letter last year for track shot put and we ordered it from Park athletic in Allen Park, a sporting good store that was in business when James Dad was his age.

  • Canterbury Village 2019

On a cold February day we took a little jaunt to Canterbury Village to check out the shops. In a week they will be hosting a home garden show so we felt this would be a good time to visit. Everyone found something unique at these stores to bring home. Olde World Canterbury Village and Aldridge’s Always Christmas celebrated it’s grand opening October 1, 1993. The original Wildwood Farm buildings used by the Hadrills, Scripps and Keating have all been carefully restored and continue to be productive while preserving an important chapter in Michigan’s history.

  • Great Lakes Crossing 2019

Presidents Day is a day off for both James and his Dad so the whole family took advantage of this and headed out to Pontiac for Great Lakes Crossing. We thought about going to Frankenmuth or Canterbury Village but both had malls that were primarily outside and it was 27 degrees outside so we decided on Great Lakes Crossing which is the largest mall in Michigan. It is truly gigantic and you could really spend a whole day seeing everything.

Mom picked up some items at TJ Maxx and James found a controller for his Nintendo game that he got. No big purchases but alot of fun for a mid winters day.

  • First Halloween Store Open For 2018

This year our first Spirit Halloween store that was opened and reasonably stocked was in Canton MI. The fact that its mid August did not deter the family as we made a quick visit and Mom bought a T shirt (she had a 20% off coupon she got in email). James really liked the blue fog (we took several pictures of it) and says he wants that for his Birthday, not sure how practical that is but the important thing was we all had a little Halloween fun at a very early stage of the year.

  • Pink Flamingos

Here is something you don’t see every day in our neighborhood, a bunch of pink flamingo’s in one of our neighbors yard. Last weekend we had a garage sale in this area (not the same house but close) and the flamingos were not there at that time, then Dad spotted them on his way to work and snapped the pic on the way home that day. We do not know the story behind this but it should be interesting. One thing for sure, the pink flamingos certainly brighten up the lawn (although cutting the lawn would certainly be hard with all those wire legs).

  • Spring 2018

Finally some decent weather and Mom was able to work on the yard a bit. Shown here are some pics from the work done and we think it looks fabulous. Ironically while posting these pics, Mom’s facebook showed what she posted a year ago and it was pictures of the yard from 2017. One of these plants actually grows strawberries and in one of the pics you can see that at least one of the strawberries is getting ready for picking. This should be a great season as we finally begin enjoying the spring weather. With Mothers day just ending we still had flowers inside which made for a great spring setting!

  • James on Track Team

We are all proud of James as he performs for Annapolis JV Track Team. He is currently on the JV squad but did throw a little for the Varsity at certain events. James does the shot put and each time he throws the ball he gets a little better and better. He also is working on the Discus throw. James and Dad hope to work on this over the summer months which his coach says means he needs to strengthen his upper body as best as possible. James has gotten several exercises to do from his coach and has been very attentive and diligent in his practices both at Annapolis and the back yard. So far James’s biggest nemesis has been all the rainfall we received this spring.
