  • O.W. Best Track Team

James is on the OW Best track team and does a couple events. This is really the first organized sports that James had ever participated in while in school and James is making the best of it. We had to take James in for a sports physical and instead of picking him up at school we pick him up at the track (unless it rains) so its been a good experience for Mom and Dad as well, sitting in the stands and watching all the events. The average track meet takes over two hours so by the time James gets finished its well past 6pm and he is hungry and thirsty as one might imagine.

  • VIP Camp Bowling 2017

James got a chance to go bowling with some of his friends from VIP camp and had an awesome day. These types of meetings are lots of fun for James and his family since most of his friends from this camp he only gets to see in summer, so its a real treat seeing them in January. James bowled a couple games, got some pizza and a soda, and had a great day.

We also took advantage of this time to wish everyone a very Happy New Year in a short little video!

  • Lincoln Park Middle School Bowling Fundraiser 2016

James participated in a bowling fundraiser and had a blast. The event was held at the Belmar Lanes bowling alley on Fort Street in Lincoln Park. Dad dropped James off then decided to stay since the Lions game was on there and managed to snap a few pictures. James bowled three games and won two of those. He also won a Michigan package with all sorts of goodies from the University of Michigan (James is becoming a big Michigan fan). Pizza and pop were also available but since James and his Dad had filled up on pizza from the Halloween party the night before only soda’s were drank.

  • James Visits Michigans “The Big House” Stadium 2016

Our neighbors were kind enough to give James and his Dad tickets to the Michigan / Central Florida game played in Ann Arbor MI. James had a complete blast as Michigan scored 3 touchdowns in the first quarter which pretty much secured the win. James and his Dad then went out and ate pizza and french fries during the second quarter and finished up the afternoon walking around the stadium and going to the souvenir shops. The final score was Michigan 51 and UCF 14. James enjoyed the band, the cheerleaders, the warthog flyover along with the big flags, but when asked what his favorite moment was it was sacking the Central Florida quarterback deep in their own territory. Dads favorite was seeing three kicks blocked (2 punts, 1 field goal) in the first quarter. The tickets were in the endzone 25 rows up and we could see ourselves on TV for most of the extra points. The Michigan Stadium is the largest football stadium in the United States which made it all that much more fun for James since he loves statistics.

  • James Checks Out A Nascar Racer 2016

James in front of Austin Dillon’s Sprint Cup car at our local Walmart in Taylor Michigan (Austin wasn’t in the car). The NASCAR Xfinity and Cup car races are at Michigan Internation Speedway (MIS) this coming weekend. MIS is located in Brooklyn Michigan near the Irish Hills for those who are not race fans but are state of Michigan fans. In the parking lot (pictured) you can see the Nascar truck that brought the vehicle to Michigan.

James has been a big racing fan since his first visit to MIS about 7 years ago. He has been to MIS three times and all for the same race (it kept getting rained out)

  • Lincoln Park Middle School Football 2015

James and his dad went to the last Lincoln Park Middle School home football game which featured Lincoln Park vs Southgate in two football games. The first was the JV game (or 7th graders I believe) and the second was the Varsity game (8th Graders).

The event was very well organized and included a half time show by the cheerleaders and even concessions. Each quarter was ten minutes and the clock only seemed to stop when a timeout was called or when there was a possession change.

James had a blast rooting his school on and wants to see more football in the future. Maybe a trip to the “Big House” is what he needs in the future.

  • Blimp Chase of 2014

While watching a Tiger game on TV, James and Dad noticed the blimp floating around Comerica park and James decided he wanted to go “Down Town” and see it in person.

Hopping in a car, we headed down to Comerica Park and navigated so that the car was almost directly under the blimp. It was actually a Direct TV blimp, not Good Year, but regardless we followed the blimp till it made its way down 94 and across the river into international waters.

  • Chasing a Rainbow at a Softball Game 2014

James and Dad went to the park (despite a slight rain) to watch some of Dad’s friends play softball at Levigood (spelling??? The park outside Divine Child high school) park in Dearborn Heights. James spent most of the time playing in the park nearby, but was on hand when the game went into extra innings. The game went into extra inning and (unfortunately) Dad’s friends lost in the extra innings. All the same it was a fun visit for both James and Dad, who used to play softball not that long ago.

On the way home we were treated to a rainbow hovering over Dearborn Heights. James decided he wanted to chase it down so we continued past Dearborn Heights into Taylor but the rainbow continued to elude us, going more and more South the close we came to it. Although we came close, we never did catch up to the rainbow.

Finally the rainbow disappeared altogether and James and Dad returned home from a fun afternoon in “the heights”.

  • James Ice Skating Lessons 2013

James is currently taking ice skating lessons in Southgate. Several of his friends are there and he is meeting new friends all the time so its a very good social event for him. Skating wise he leaves a little to be desired but he’s only attended three classes at the time of this writing and we are very confident he will become a good skater and that will be something that he can take with him the rest of his life. James enjoys working with his instructors and they are very patient with him so we know he is in good hands.

James has decided to practice on his own with his roller skates in the back yard on sunny winter days so we know he is trying hard.

We will be adding more pictures to this post each week as James progresses through learning how to skate.

  • Pocono Speedway 2012

While driving along on the Pennsylvania interstate we saw a sign for the Pocono Speedway Exit and Mary immediately recognized the name since she is an avid Nascar Fan. We took the exit and went a few miles then came across the raceway. There is a real nice gift shop that seems to be open most of the year and sells souvenirs, shirts, etc.

The Pocono Speedway also known as The Tricky Triangle among Nascar fans, its one of the few tracks located in the mountains, actually in the Pocono Mountains in Long Pond, Pennsylvania to be specific. The race track is one of only three NASCAR tracks not owned by either Speedway Motorsports, Inc. or International Speedway Corporation, the dominant track owners in NASCAR. The other two tracks that hold this distinction are Dover International Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
