4th of July

  • 4th of July 2011

For the last few years we have spent the Fourth of July in Colon MI with friends but this year we stayed home because James wanted to have his own fireworks show. A quick trip to Walmart got us a package of cool fireworks that we lit off at night. Although our little firework show was small, there were lots of other fireworks going on by other neighbors that created a great atmosphere.

James thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks and the entire evening of festivities as afterwards we enjoyed a late nite snack prepared by Mom and watched more celebrations from the front window.

  • Magic Capitol 4th of July Parade & Festival 2010

The Fourth of July celebration in Colon is truly a marvel for the year. Our family and I had a wonderful time again. Our day began at 11am watching the parade go down main street from the high school. Our friends Walter and Mary Weaver were gracious host so we had a front row seat for most of the activities. There were many highlights of the parade but most of our group felt the flyover by the jets was the best part.

Once the parade ended and we took a short break, then went down for the festivities which included many games and activities including a couple new ones. Our group then hooked up for a magic show at Abbott’s where we enjoyed a wonderful performance by Gordon Miller.

Special thanks to Walter and Mary Weaver for having us. Thanks to Grandma for joining us as well.

  • Magic Capitol 4th of July Parade 2009

Our annual trek to Colon Michigan for the 4th of July Parade came about, and once again James had a blast. We did not take as many pics this time so we could enjoy the fun. It was not as hot as last year but still quite warm, plenty of water was distributed to the spectators lining the street before and during the Parade.

James certainly loves the parade but probably the highlight of his day (just like last year) came at the dunk tank. James just had a blast throwing balls at the guy in the dunk tank, and when he fell into the water he would laugh and laugh. I was so entertained by the event I did not even think about getting out the camera, oh well. Needless to say, a fun time was had by all including the parents.

If you ever are looking for something different to do on the 4th, give the little town of Colon Michigan a try.

  • Magic Capitol 4th of July Parade 2008

This is Colon MI, the Magic Capital of the World, and each year they have a huge parade and festival to celebrate the 4th. James has a blast each time he comes here. As the floats pass by they toss out candy to the kids so its like trick or treat in the summer. They also have people in the parade with wheel barrels full of cold water handing it out to all the spectators so that there is no worry about anyone overheating in the July sun.

Plenty of vehicles in this parade that lasted a little over an hour with a presentation at the end. Floats, tractors, homecoming queens, police and fire were all part of the show.

A great time was had by all who attended ever though it was a little on the hot side, but not too hot.
