  • James and Cindy the Cat 2013

Last year our beloved cat Lucy passed away in October and recently James hinted that we wanted another cat to play with. He specifically wanted a yellow cat. After a couple of weeks, Cindy is fitting in just fine with the family (although Idgie takes her with a grain of salt, we still see them snoozing together from time to time). James enjoys playing with the kitten (yes, she is a kitten but is big for her age) so we thought we would take some pictures of the two of them playing. James even made a “kitty school” out of a cardboard box and Cindy enjoys going in there. Some of these pictures are blurred but it more the kitten moving so fast than anything else. Welcome to the family Cindy.

  • James Swimming Pool Fun 2012

James has a blast with his inflatable pool in the backyard!

  • Summer Fun So Far In 2012

James has been counting the days till summer vacation begins and he has many things planned. He plans to relax when thinking about his plans though, that is his first plan.

For about the last two weeks we have had a heatwave across the midwest and USA, so James had to find a variety of ways to stay cool this summer. The following pictures were taken (in no particular order) at the Colon Park, Colon Moving Dock, Trenton Festival (after a visit to Aunt Peg in wyandotte hospital), and of course James own back yard and basement.

During the heatwave of 2012 we were very fortunate not to lose power or air conditioning capabilities (although I am a bit terrified of the huge electric bill we will get running the AC so hard).

  • James Skipping Rope at Hoover Elementary 2012

I asked James what to write for these pictures and he told me “Jump Rope At Recess”. The pictures were taken at his school’s field day by a school secretary and sent to us by his teacher. Jame’s teacher also wrote the following “James did so well at everything. He really practiced jump rope; it’s a hard skill to teach someone but he was game.”

Good for James. I have never been able to master the jump rope.

  • Nashville Phillips Toy Mart 2012

It is so nice to escape the cold weather of Michigan in January and head to the more “calmer” temperature of Nashville. It was so nice out that we stopped at Phillips Toy Mart to pick up some outdoor game that James could play while we were visiting Grandpa and enjoying this moderate temperature (we have to figure that it may be months before James will be able to play outside in Michigan with the possible exception of building snowmen or snow forts).

James got to climb up and be the conductor for the train while visiting the store. We found several things for him to play with outside (there is a wide open field outside of where Grandpa is staying that is ideal for this) and ended up with a light up frisbee like saucer that we ended up tossing to each other. Grandpa was able to go outside but whether or not he could see the light up frisbee flying through the air I can’t say for sure.

Thanks for having the right toy at the right time Phillips

  • Summer Fun in the Backyard 2011

Today, Sept 7, 2011, James started the third grade, so we thought we would pick out a few of the pics from what james did the final month of his summer vacation (besides playing Wii and playing on the computer). The summer of 2011 will be remembered for being hot and humid, but James took care of that by playing with various forms of sprinkler toys. His moonwalk came in handy as well, but eventually the heat got so bad that we did not want James getting too hot jumping around in it.

With school starting and Fall right around the corner, we thought it would be a good time to remember the hot summer of 2011.

  • Abbotts Magic Get Together 2011

We all headed out to Colon MI for the annual Abbotts Get Together which features some of the most recognized names in magic. This year was a little different with a blind folded car drive through the city streets, a car show, and a craft show going on during the event. James enjoyed the blindfolded car drive and Mary enjoyed the car show while Dad liked the dealers room where the latest magic is for sale.

Each year since 1934 Magicians have migrated to this tiny town to see the latest magic and to perform for a midwest audience. They actually have two popular sayings to describe this event, one is “Vegas comes to Mayberry” and the other is the “Magic Capitol of the World”. The whole magic thing is due to the Abbott magic company which has been putting this event on for over seventy years. Some of the top names in magic such as Blackstone (both Sr. and Jr.), Lance Burton, Jeff McBride, Mac King, Jeff Hobson, and many more have performed here.

  • A Fun Snow Day 2011

A blistering cold Michigan Saturday did not stop James from having some winter time fun. He built a snow fort, then had a blast demolishing it. He made snow angels and snow balls, but had difficulty getting the snow to stick for a genuine snowman. He was visited by Swiper (the squirrel that can be seen in the neighbors tree, James named him after Swiper the Fox from the Dora cartoon series because he looks alot like the fox (he’s a big squirrel). It appears that we were the only two human beings outside this day, I don’t know if that’s a statement about us or about the neighborhood but eventually we just said no more being a prisoner of a Michigan winter.

  • Artist At Work 2010

James got a pack of construction paper with some bottle money he had saved, and the first project he did was re-create the picture on the front of the package. James showed a lot of patience and work as he got the exact colors and drew the figures. Neither Mary nor myself are very good artist’s but I know both his Grandma and Grandpa Kleiber (could draw a very good popeye) were excellent in drawing so maybe talent skips a generation.

Mom and Dad thought enough of his effort that we framed the picture for him. Now he has an artist easel and he is making the most out of it. Do we have an artist in the making?

  • Toy Story 3 Arrives 2010

James has been on a Toy Story 3 kick since the movie came out this summer. He plays the Wii version of the game quite a bit and his favorite character is Woody (and also Rex because he is such a dinosaur fan). He likes Buzz but calls him Buzz Lightweight instead of Buzz Lightyear, a reference to Toy Story 2 for those who have seen the movie (the Kelsey Grammar character (stinky pete or something like that) refers to the Tim Allen character (Buzz) as Lightweight).

Today he got a package in the mail from Aunt Peg and it was a Toy Story play set with a pull out “Andy’s Room”. A very cool toy and James has been playing with it since it arrived. James wanted to say thanks to Aunt Peg so here are some of the first pics from the play set so Aunt Peg could see how happy this made him.

    Thanks again Peg.
