James wanted to thank everyone who got him the fruit basket when he caught cold this winter.

Hoover Elementary Movie Night 2014
This had to be one of the coldest days of the year, in fact, school was cancelled for the next day. But Dad had promised James we would attend the Hoover Elementary Movie Night and watch “Monsters University”, the prequel to the Monsters Inc movie that James loved as a child. The event had an average attendance so I am sure this was affected by the weather. However once inside it was warm and the popcorn was fresh. The screen was an inflatable screen on the stage which I had never seen before. The movie went over very well and James enjoyed the evening.
We hope to attend the next showing at Hoover, but this weather has got to break first. Going out and starting the car to go home the temperature was about -10 and we did not feel warm air until we pulled up in our drive at home.

Kittyville 2014
James got a surprised this Christmas when he received a new pet from the Humane Society. These kittens were rescue kittens and have really become a part of the household (especially with the cold winter we are having where everybody is inside most of the day).Currently these kittens are on a kitty chow diet and I don’t know what they put in that stuff but the kitty litter used in the house has gone up a lot more than you would expect. We also keep the kittens out of the basement because we don’t want them messing around with some of the nooks and crannies you can find in a basement (or with the decorations stored down there). Once it warms up we should be able to put the Holiday decorations in the garage and the kittens will be much bigger and not able to crawl into small places.
All in all, everyone is enjoying the new additions and watching them grow.

After Halloween Sale 2013
As I am sure it has been pointed out before on this blog, Dad get his Christmas and Birthday gift from Mom each year Nov 1, a shopping spree consisting of Kmart, Walmart, Joanns, and Spirit Halloween. This year was no exception, best deals we found were 70% off, but the rest was 50% off. However I think the best deal was the T-shirts, which were only a couple dollars each.It may take a little longer to get decorations this way, but if you pack them away then open them a year later, its no different than if you bought them just then, this way you save a ton.
This year James got to join in on the fun as he was off from school for scheduled school admin stuff, so he picked out a few things as well including an Angry Bird Pig pumpkin carving set (you stick the parts into the pumpkin and you are done, no muss, no fuss).
After shopping Mom took the family out to Big Boy for the breakfast bar, a great day with lots of great values.

Hoover Elementary Halloween Parade 2013
Not the best conditions for a parade as it rained all day on Halloween. The parade was originally planned to go around the block but because of the poor conditions they only had the kids march around the school. Lots of great costumes despite the weather conditions. Speaking of weather, James decided on his costume a couple days before the event, he wanted to go not as a monster or politician or celebrity, but as a weather man. We made up a thunderstorm weatherman outfit for him with raindrops falling from the umbrella (as if we needed them today) and a thunderstorm cloud as well. Due to the weather it worked out well as he was dressed head to toe in wet weather gear, simulating a weatherman broadcasting from a hurricane area. -
Best Decorated Halloween Homes 2013
There are many houses near ours who do outstanding Halloween decorations so this year we went out a couple times throught the hood and snapped some pictures. Good thing we did this before Halloween because the weather really went bad Oct 31st.The first trek into the neighborhood we took Aunt Peg with us so she got a chance to see some of the homes in the area. The next trek we took Mom (Aunt Peg ended up in the hospital for a couple days) so you may see a duplicate home (although we did check for duplicates, but not really hard).
Without further ado, the best decorated homes for Halloween this year in our neighborhood.

End of Summer 2013
This summer started off hot then cooled down, but James did take advantage of both the hot days and the cool days in various ways. For the real hot days he had his slip and slide going in the back yard, cooler days he would work on his chalk projects. After the Fourth of July it seemed the weather really became mild with average temperatures in the mid 70 – mid 80. This was unusual to be this cool in July and August but opened the door for many outdoor adventures where you did not have to avoid the sunlight.
Highlights of this year for James would have to include the slip and slide days of June, Mackinaw, VIP camp, and all the fireworks on the Fourth of July (we trusted James to light a few this year).
James will begin 5th grade tomorrow and we are all looking forward to that. Mrs Jent will be his teacher again this year and we are all happy about that.
Last Spring when summer started for James he brought home a sunflower from school that he planted, shown here is James and the sunflower and how well he took care of it.

U.S. 12 Garage Sale 2013
Once again we went on tour down US12 (known as Michigan Avenue around here) for the annual garage sale. Last year the weather was bad and we only made it to the Irish Hills, this year the weather was perfect and we made it all the way to Cold Water!James picked up some toys for virtually nothing, and Mary did well finding some awesome quilts and other items that she hopes to resell on Ebay.
The Halloween crop this year was very limited, not much for Dad to get. I think we cleaned out the Halloween stuff over the past couple years at garage sales. James is trying to get a road map of every state in the U.S. and actually is more than half way there.

School Party as James Completes 4th Grade 2013
You can always tell when the school year is coming to an end when they have the Hoover school party (I believe the party was May 22nd). This is one of James’ favorite events in the world and he always has a great time and tells us all about the fascinating things he and his class did at this event. Thanks to his teachers for sending us these pictures.James graduated the 4th grade with honors and will enter the 5th grade next fall. We are very proud of the hard work James puts in at school and he has certainly come a long way. We are not sure what teacher he will have (hopefully Mrs Jent since he already knows her and maybe more importantly, she knows him and all his “schemes”).
Let summer vacation begin 🙂
