While we were walking around the Dream Cruise on Telegraph, James got to meet Ronald McDonald at our local McDonalds restaurant and had a good time with the famous clown.

Telegraph Dream Cruise 2005
James went with us to watch the antique cars at the Telegraph Dream Cruise. It was pretty hot that day so we didn’t stay long in the sun. Mary stuck it out because she enjoys cars and she wants to support this new dream cruise.Mary used to live in Ferndale and during the Woodward Dream Cruise we would have front row seats, so we are hoping the Telegraph dream cruise will eventually be as big. We only live a few blocks from Telegraph so its only a 5 minute walk for us, where as a drive to Ferndale and parking during the Dream Cruise is a nightmare.
Only time will tell where this dream cruise will lead to.

Arch Bridge Construction 2005
We took a couple pictures of the arch bridge which is going to be the “Gateway to Detroit” for the 2006 Superbowl (which is only about 6 months away) will be the exit and on ramps between Telegraph and I-94. The idea is that when people get off their plane and head to Detroit they will pass this structure and think how great we are. Somehow I don’t think the Lions will be playing in it but you never know…well, actually I do know.
They have been working on this for quite some times. Sometimes in the summer with the windows open you can hear the sounds of the construction from our home even though we are about a mile away (as the crow flies at least). In the past when you exited for telegraph you had to get in the left lane which is unusual so maybe that’s another reason for building this bridge.

Bush Presidential Rally 2004
James got to see the president this day, his first time being searched by security as well. Not only was this james first time seeing a president but mine as well, we had to go down to the Republican headquarters in town and promise not to cause any trouble or do anything to embarrass the president. What a strange world we live in.
The funniest part of the whole event was when they introduced Bo Schembechler. The crowd roared then got all quiet and the only sound you could hear was Mary asking “Who the hell is Bo Schembechler”?

City Beautification Award for Christmas Display
For Christmas we setup a display in our front window with an animated life size Santa. This is something we do every year to one extent or another. But this year was special as we added for the first time some icicle lights to the display. We did not really think much more of it, except trying to remember to turn it on at dusk during the holiday season. Someone must have driven by from the city and seen it and they gave us the “City Beautiful Commission Award”. We were all surprised and enjoyed our little token of fame, even though they spelt the name wrong, it was still a very nice sentiment from city hall.
The letter said they were going to have a run off of all the houses and a winner would be announced in the paper, but since we were never contacted we assumed it wasn’t us that won the overall prize.

Loretta Kleiber’s Retirement Party at Oakwood Hospital 1987
Loretta worked for Oakwood hospital until 1987 when she retired. She was a switchboard operator and worked the midnight shift, midnight till 8am, so she had lots of stories of the events that went on in the wee hours of a hospital. If you ever called Oakwood hospital between midnight and 8 am odds are that it was Loretta who you spoke to on the phone. When she retired they threw her a small retirement party at the hospital. The family always thought that it was strange that someone who had such trouble with their hearing would be the one answering calls at a hospital. I think the headset made all the difference.
