  • Best Decorated Halloween Homes 2013

There are many houses near ours who do outstanding Halloween decorations so this year we went out a couple times throught the hood and snapped some pictures. Good thing we did this before Halloween because the weather really went bad Oct 31st.

The first trek into the neighborhood we took Aunt Peg with us so she got a chance to see some of the homes in the area. The next trek we took Mom (Aunt Peg ended up in the hospital for a couple days) so you may see a duplicate home (although we did check for duplicates, but not really hard).

Without further ado, the best decorated homes for Halloween this year in our neighborhood.

  • Rainbow over Home 2013

This is the first time I remember seeing a rainbow right over our own house. James thought it was great and wanted to look for the pot of gold.

  • End of Summer 2013

This summer started off hot then cooled down, but James did take advantage of both the hot days and the cool days in various ways. For the real hot days he had his slip and slide going in the back yard, cooler days he would work on his chalk projects.

After the Fourth of July it seemed the weather really became mild with average temperatures in the mid 70 – mid 80. This was unusual to be this cool in July and August but opened the door for many outdoor adventures where you did not have to avoid the sunlight.

Highlights of this year for James would have to include the slip and slide days of June, Mackinaw, VIP camp, and all the fireworks on the Fourth of July (we trusted James to light a few this year).

James will begin 5th grade tomorrow and we are all looking forward to that. Mrs Jent will be his teacher again this year and we are all happy about that.

Last Spring when summer started for James he brought home a sunflower from school that he planted, shown here is James and the sunflower and how well he took care of it.

  • East Side Marios 2013

Easter weekend is a great time for good eating, and what better place to go than East Side Marios who have the absolute best soup, burgers, and Italian cuisine around.

When you have had your fill of Easter eggs and ham, this is the destination for you.

The setting of the restaurant is New York, specifically what you would find at the corner of Canal Street and Mulberry Street in Lower Manhattan. Ficticious windows of ficticious New Yorkers surround you along with the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty.

Great place to visit, great atmosphere, great food, and reasonably priced. Although the setting is in New York, and the cuisine is American/Italian, the company is actually owned by a Canadian company so you have a little bit of America, a little bit of Italy, and a little bit of Canada working to give you a very entertaining meal.

  • Fire on Jackson Street in Dearborn Heights

This morning we were on our way to visit Aunt Peg (she is scheduled to go home from Heartland rehab this Wednesday) when we saw a street blocked off at Jackson between Dartmouth and Colgate. The fire department was there putting out a home that was on fire. We hope everyone is ok and safe. We do not know what caused the fire, could have been lightning as we had a storm earlier but thats just speculation.

  • Halloween at Manuels Taco Hut 2012

At James Halloween Get Together one of our guest tipped us off to this little gem of a place. During the year its Manuels Taco Hut, but they close for one week in the Fall and decorate the entire restaurant for Halloween. Its a great atmosphere with black walls, plenty of Ultra Violet lighting, and creepy skulls, ghost, and skeletons adorn the entire restaurant.

Mom and Dad had chicken burritos and beans while James stuck with his usual chicken nuggets and french fries. The food was great and nothing was left on anyone’s plate at the end. Mom liked the animated Michael Meyers best, Dad liked the talking sculpture best, and James liked the singing pirate skeleton in the treasure chest the best.

Manuels Taco Hut is on Ecorse road between Pelham and Allen road on the North side. We heard from their website that they do something similar for Christmas.

  • Neighbor’s Graduation Party

Our neighbors had a graduation party for their son Eric and James and his family were invited. Dad saw many of his “little friends” (a nick name for friends who went to first grade together) and Sammy’s parents were there as well. Dad remembers when Eric was about two years old he was hitting whiffle balls over the fence at Swapka field. A very athletic kid for sure!

The party was awesome and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Dad said it was nice to have a few drinks and relax since the party was only two doors away.

We wish Eric the best and are sure he will be a success at whatever he decides to do.

  • James Grandma Moves To Michigan 2009

James Dad flew out to Nashville to help Grandma move to Michigan. Grandma hired a company to pack her things and they loaded up a rental truck and drove them up to Michigan. They rented the truck in Nashville but fortunately could return it in Michigan.

It did not take long to unload the truck into Grandma’s new place called the “Garden City Tower” and we helped get Grandma settled into her new home.

There are many activities at Garden City Tower as they have a library and a computer room plus Grandma has an outdoor balcony where she can plant a garden if she wants or fly a flag. She has a great view from the balcony since she is on the tenth floor.

    Welcome to Michigan Grandma.

  • A White Christmas In 2007

This year we were hoping for a white Christmas and it looked like we were going to get a really white Christmas. We got hammered with snow on December 17th, my birthday no less. James had to help shovel the snow because there was so much, and afterward we put together a snowman from a kit his Aunt Peg had gotten him a while bit. They kit came with everything except the snow, and mother nature provided plenty of that.

This would be James first snowman, and we had a ball putting him together. He lasted for about a week until a rain washed away most of the snow right before Christmas. The house really looked good with the now and the decorations, especially at night.

  • Telegraph Dream Cruise 2006

This is a new dream cruise that is just getting started and hopefully will rival the Woodward one. We usually sit in front of the antique store and sometimes bring the Nash. Mary is from a car loving family and knows much more about cars than I do. She takes pictures of the cars, then prints the photos and makes an album out of them. She then sends the album to her Dad (Howard) who is in a nursing home down in Tennessee. Her dad enjoys the pictures and getting a chance to see all the classic cars that he drove in his youth.

James joined us in watching the festivities. He was at the event last year as well and enjoys seeing the cars drive by and waving at him. Of course he waves back which keeps him very busy.
