Renee’s Vegas Wedding 2008
These pictures were sent from Ron and are of Renee’s wedding in Las Vegas. Lots of pictures of the Vegas attractions in this post as well as the wedding. It looks like a great time was had by all and we wish them all the best in their new marriage.
Both Renee and her husband are in the military and have done several tour in Iraq, the entire family is so proud of them. Later on in the year, Renee had a reception up in Gaylord MI for those who could not make it out to Las Vegas. The last few pictures are of the Gaylord event and they were taken by Peg on her visit up there.
Chuck and Mary’s Wedding 2002
Chuck and Mary were married at the City Hall back in 2002. About a year later James was born.
We were going to have our wedding in Las Vegas but the 911 attacks postponed everything. Finally we got tired of waiting and planning and I called the city and they said they could do it during the first week in September so we agreed. Ron, Aunt Louise, and Peg attended a small ceremony at city hall then we went on a honeymoon up north and had a great time. We visited Saulte Ste Marie and Mackinaw Island and the weather was literally spectacular the whole honeymoon.
Mary was proposed to at a garage sale at the Kleiber home and the rest is history.
Criss Wedding to Kenny 1987
Criss and Kenny Rae tied the knot on a very chilly day in October. Criss’s husband Kenny Rae is a country western singer and entertainer well known in the down river area. His family is from Indiana and his cousin in basketball star Larry Bird.
After the ceremony the party moved on to Trenton to celebrate the event in Aunt Louise’s basement (which had been used for many a celebration through the years). The party went into the wee hours of the night, the keg was tied down and taken with us, and a great time was had by everyone in attendance.
It was really good to see the whole family together, seeing cousin David and Patty Lou is beginning to be a rarity even though they live within an hour of us.
Jim & Lisa Wedding 1985
Jim and Lisa (part of the “little friends”, a name for a group of friends that have known each other since first grade) decided to get married and James Dad was asked to stand up in the wedding along with the other “little friends”.
The night before the little friends spent time cleaning and decorating cars that would be used in the wedding procession. The wedding was on a hot summer day and many pictures were taken, the ones shown here were taken by James’ grandmother during the ceremony at St Albert the Great Church.
After the wedding a great reception party was had and everyone had a great time. After the reception the “little friends” headed up to the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn where the party continued into the wee hours of the next day.
Truly a memorable day in the “little friends” Lore.
Bill Landis Wedding 1982
When William Howard Landis was born in 1956, in Nashville, Tennessee, his father, William, was 28 and his mother, Judith, was 19. He has one son and two daughters with Valerie Keel. He has two brothers and one sister.
James’ Grandpa Landis told us once on one of our road trips that James’ Mom was the one who introduced Valerie to Bill. Mom says she does not remember that exact moment as they had many friends they introduced to each other so Mom said that it was quite possible, she just did not remember that exact introduction.
The wedding was in Nashville and a great time was had by all.
Cousin Terry’s Wedding 1980
Cousin Terry’s wedding was much fun for the whole family with lots of dancing at the reception. Most of James relatives were in attendance and can be seen in these pictures. The wedding took place on a glorious summer day.
There was hardly a dry eye in the place as many remembered Terry’s Dad Uncle Joe, who had passed away a few years earlier while visiting Disney World with his family. He would have been very proud of his day and everyone was sure he was looking down from heaven with his blessing.
Criss Marries Danny Merritt 1973
The wedding took place at Dearborn City Hall and was presided over by Mayor Orville Hubbard. On the back of the photo given to us by the city is the following:
With Best Wishes From Orville L Hubbard, LLB, Mayor of Dearborn Since January 6, 19942. A very nice gesture from the City of Dearborn for sure.
After the services at City Hall, the wedding party went to the Dearborn Inn where a reception was held. The band played “Misty” for Criss, since it was her favorite song at the time.
A good time was had by all!
Peg Gets Married 1968
Peg flew out to California to be with her boyfriend Richard Turowski who lived there. While out there, they decided to get married and Peg became Peg Turowski.
Unfortunately the marriage did not work out for Peg and she returned back to Michigan with her mother who flew out to California to help her drive her car home.
While Peg did have the marriage annulled in the Catholic church, she never legally divorced Richard and so she remained Peg Turowski (in name only) for the rest of her life.
Richard Turowski died around the turn of the century which technically made Peg a widow…after about thirty years.
Mark Marries Kathy 1968
Cousin Mark married his girl friend Kathy in 1968 which marked another significant event that took place during the summer of 1968. Mark and Kathy had two children, Ron and Renee. Ron was actually born while Mark was on tour in Germany while Renee was born after Mark got out of the service due to injuries suffered in Vietnam.
Mark was a lieutenant when he married Kathy and they were together in Germany until Mark got transferred to Vietnam. A grenade went off and Mark lost an eye and had scrapnel scars from the grenade. Upon returning to civilian life, he and Kathy lived in Trenton for years while he worked at Great Lakes Steel. Kathy was a graduate of Eastern University in Ypsilanti and worked as a teacher.
Kathy and Mark would often go camping and had a beautiful boat that made the camping all that more enjoyable.
Patty Lou and Doug Shower and Wedding 1967
I remember this being the big event of the year as the shower was held in Aunt Louise’s basement (it was very popular for parties since it had a bar in the basement). It was a big event because Patty Lou is about the friendliest person you will ever meet and everyone wanted the best for her on her big day.
The wedding occurred about a month or so later and was a great time. Patty Lou and Doug bought a beautiful home in Woodhaven and it was literally brand new (they just built it). They added a huge swimming pool to the back yard and it was such a blast to go over there and go swimming whenever they had parties.
Woodhaven is just down the road from Trenton along West Road.
