Santa’s Magical Forest 2022

Santa’s Magic Forest returned to Heritage park and so did the VIP campers who came out on a cool (not too cold) December evening. The problem this year was James had to be at College at 7pm and the event begins at 6pm, but the good news is that it is only a 5 minute walk away from the College and James was able to not only attend College during the day and evening, but got to the Santa’s Magic Forest in between classes.

Santa’s Magical Forest took 57 volunteers 840 hours to assemble and the bulk of the props came from Hudsons, Bronners, and South Land Mall. Continue reading “Santa’s Magical Forest 2022”

Santas Magic Forest 2019

It was a clear and cold night this year as James and his family made the trek to see the magic forest. It was great to see so many people attending this year, by far the largest turnout since we have been coming to this event. It was also great to see people that you usually only see in the summer time during the Holiday season. Lots of fun as always and we encourage everyone who can to visit this awesome Christmas display which is at Heritage Park on most weekends during the holidays.

We did receive some bad news, that one of the parents we know very well had a stroke, fortunately he is expected to make a full recovery so our prayers our with him and his family during this Holiday season.

Santa’s Magical Forest 2018

Every year we go to this event in Taylor and see all the beautiful Christmas decorations. Mom and Dad surprised James by telling him that we were going to the post office to mail letters and James bought it. We noticed many more items added to the display this year so its great to see it evolve through these pictures as we make a sort of historical record of the Christmas display. Lots of fun and great to see all our friends as well on a beautifully lit December evening.

VIP Camp once again hosted a wonderful event and James got to meet his friends from summer camp before Christmas.

Santa’s Magical Forest 2017

Hard to believe its been a year since we last visited this wonderful Christmas display at Heritage park in Taylor. The weather was a balmy 18 degrees and their was about 4 inches of snow on the ground, so the stage was set for a very memorable Christmas visit. James got to see his friends from VIP camp (although one was absent who we all missed, Jame’s friend Sammy who he had known since Hoover Elementary, passed away unexpectedly in late November).

Santas Magical Forest 2016

VIP Camp teams up with the city of Taylor for this annual event, and best of all James gets to see some of the VIP Instructors and Campers again, some of them for the first time since August. As usual the staff outdid themselves with another awesome display, some of it Dad might have seen as a child at the old Hudson store in Detroit.

In addition to visiting with friends, James got to sit down with Jolly ol St Nick himself and gave him a list of items he wanted, most being study books for school.

All in all a wonderful day on a cold December night in Michigan, it just doesn’t get any better than this. Big congrats to VIP camp for setting up this marvelous free event for the kids.

Santa’s Magical Forest 2015

Once again James got to meet up with friends from his summer VIP camp and enjoyed the animatronics at Taylors Heritage Park Activity Building. The Magic Forest is every weekend from Nov 28th through December 22nd and admission is only $3 (all proceeds benefit Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry). Many of the animatronics are from the old Hudson display in downtown Detroit and others were donated by collectors and such. Of course Santa was there which made the visit complete.

Santa’s Magical Forest 2014

James returned to Santa’s Magic Forest for the second year now and got to meet up with several of his VIP camp friends. This was one of the few times we were able to surprise James as he had no idea where he was going a 6pm this night (James was under the weather the past two days and we wanted to make sure he was ok before taking him which aided in us keeping it a secret). Unfortunately Mom is now under the weather and she could not make it to the festivities. The decorations were awesome as usual and James simply had a blast this day (I would say winter blast but the temperature was in the low 50’s and high 40’s most of the day). Big thanks to the VIP campers for making this event happen.

Santa’s Magical Forest 2013

James and his family visited Santa’s Magic Forest at Taylor’s Heritage park and he caught up with several of his friends from summer VIP camp. Talking to the people who put this on they explained some of the decorations are from the old Hudson’s Christmas display that many adults remember fondly. It is all volunteer work (20 some setup days, 20 some people and 486 man hours) and the money raised helps several local food pantries.

James had a blast not only seeing friends he had not seen since summer but also with the elaborate animatronic displays and even a visit to ol St Nick. Big thanks to our friends at VIP camp for putting this event together. For more information about this event you can see the flyer, they are open till Dec 22nd this year.

Christmas at the Magic Capitol 2012

Once again we attended the Colon Christmas Celebration. James got plenty of treats as pretty much everywhere you went there were cookies, juice, cocoa, and even a chilli contest. Mary got to shop at the antique stores and James got to see Santa and also pet the live reindeer that were outside the library. Inside the library James got to pick out a free book – he chose a Madlib book. Outside the library James got to pet a couple live reindeer!

The elementary school had a craft show which included some awesome tasting snacks and some homemade Amish bread. A Santa parade went down mainstreet and there were carolers on the corners. A fun time was had by all.

Below is a demonstration of the virtual Santa that we got from Abbotts, it makes it look like Santa is really in your window.
