Happy New Year 2018

Happy New Year 2016

Happy New Years Everyone. New Year Eve began at Red Robins with Dynamike the Magician as James feasted on onion rings and pizza while everyone else had burgers. Dynamike surprised everyone with gifts for everyone, some you will see at Halloween. As the evening progressed we had the absolute disappointment watching MSU get skunked by Alabama, but the evening picked up as we approached midnight and James did his one minute countdown that he loves to do.

New Years Day was great with all the football, however almost all the games were blowouts. Fortunately Michigan routed Florida which sort of helped make up for the game the night before.

New Year 2015

James continued his New Year countdown tradtion as only he can, using his Ipad synced with the television the whole family welcomed in 2015. Mom and Dad shared some champagne while James got some Mountain Dew soda pop. After the countdown fireworks were going off outside and James watched those for a while, then we all settled in and watched some of the entertainment on tv, including a special performance by Elton John. All in all, a long day and night but an enjoyable one.

The next day was spent watching football, good games by Big Ten Teams Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Ohio State set the pace. The Michigan State game was very memorable due to coming back with three touchdowns in the 4th quarter to overcome a 20 point deficit.

New Years 2014

James brought in the New Year several different ways this year. First he had a countdown on the living room wall during the Holiday season. Next, he had a countdown on his Ipad. Simultaneously he had the countdown on the television going along with his Ipad countdown. Finally, he had fireworks saved from the 4th of July that we lit in the back yard.

We stayed up late listening the the music and the bands on the television station while watching the firework show outside. James got to bed around 1am and slept well into the Rose Bowl parade the next day. Watching the Rosebowl game we were glad to see a team from Michigan (MSU Spartans) win the game over Stanford with their great defense.

All in all, a great start to 2014

Happy New Year 2013

James synced his Ipad2 with the TV to make sure everyone knew when 2012 ended and 2013 began.

Happy New Year 2011

James’ New Year Eve started New Year Eve Eve with a trip to Toy’s R Us for a second shopping spree, this one courtesy of Grandma. James picked up two toys, the first was a Sponge Bob playdoh set which is really cool because you create Spongebob and when you are finished you can use the accessories and have a sort of sponge bob potato head type toy, tough to explain. The other was another robot that he added to his hotwheel set. This robot picks the car up and flings it 90 degrees in a different direction.

As the day went on James, Mom and Dad took a trip down the block to see the big tree decorated on Tulane and Lehigh, then returned to watch the New Year celebration with Dick Clarke. James had noise makers and those “pull a string and they pop with confetti” things so he had a blast shooting them off outside while fireworks went off throughout the night. Needless to say James slept in the next day but he had simply a great Holiday vacation and we are looking forward to him doing big things this year in school.

Happy New Year 2010

Hope that everyone had a safe and happy New Year. Just thought that I should make a few general comments about 2009 while it is still fresh in my head.

It really comes as no surprise to anyone that this has not been a banner year for Detroit and Michigan. High unemployment rate, high foreclosure rate, and low property value. The Red Wings losing a 3-2 lead in the Stanley Cup Finals, and the Tigers blowing a 3 game lead with 4 games left were actually high points in a terrible sports season which saw the Lions become the first 0-16 winless team back in January, and a second losing season for the Michigan Wolverines football team. The Piston Iverson experiment did not fare well either. An attempted terrorist attack Christmas Day on a flight bound for Detroit finished off a year that I am sure many would like to forget or start anew.

However if there is one thing I know about this town and state, it always lands on its feet. I know for a fact that industries are bringing back laid off employees after the holidays because of the work load increase, which should help the economy and bring back the property values. And as for terrorist attacking us, let me say just this… Detroit was known as the “Arsenol of Democracy” during WW2, we took on Hitler, Nazi’s, and Emperors and we are still standing, they aren’t.

Hopefully this will be a banner year for us, we certainly could use one. Here’s a few pics of the Motor City.

New Years Party 2007

There is no better day for football than New Years Day, we had some friends over and had the basement all decked out for the event. The Wolverines lost to the USC Trojans but it did not put too much of a damper on the whole party.

We have hosted several pretty good sports parties but this was the first time our team had lost since we started doing sports parties in the basement. Whenever we host a sports party and our team wins, we make a little tribute to the event and put it in a frame as a sort of trophy for our party, unfortunately the Wolverines let us down so we don’t get a trophy from this one.
