Autorama With Racing Legend Tony Stewart 2019

Nascar driver and owner Tony Stewart was on hand at the Autorama in Detroit and James, Mom, and Dad all got to meet him and get an autographed picture.

We first noticed people lining up a couple hours before Tony was scheduled to show so we went and saw the exhibits then got in line around noon. The wait was a little under two hours but it was worth it. Tony was very pleasant and friendly to everyone and James got to shake his hand. Tony was only here in Detroit for a couple hours so we were able to get plenty of pictures of “Smoke” while waiting in line. James was very happy at the end of the day with his autographed 8×10 of Tony.

Tony has been our favorite driver in the family since before James was born and now as an owner we all root for Tony’s team (including Kevin Harvick and Cling Boyler as part of Stewart Haas racing) All in all a fun time for all and plenty of autographs to go around

Pocono Speed Way 2018

After Dads class in New York, we all began the long trek home from our weekend excursion but little did we know we were to walk into a big surprise. About 3 miles of I80 is the Pocono Speedway and we thought we would stop in and check out the souvenirs. What a big surprise we got when asked if we wanted a tour of the raceway. When asked how much the tour cost we were told it was free. We went on the tour which took about an hour and boy was it ever great. The tour guide even gave us a ride around the track which we videotaped, and showed us everything about the race track including its self contained power source using a gigantic array of solar cells which powers everything at the race track. The Pocono Speedway is the last privately owned race track in the Nascar circuit which is why the tour was free, the owners want people to be happy and come back…and we will!

James Checks Out A Nascar Racer 2016

James in front of Austin Dillon’s Sprint Cup car at our local Walmart in Taylor Michigan (Austin wasn’t in the car). The NASCAR Xfinity and Cup car races are at Michigan Internation Speedway (MIS) this coming weekend. MIS is located in Brooklyn Michigan near the Irish Hills for those who are not race fans but are state of Michigan fans. In the parking lot (pictured) you can see the Nascar truck that brought the vehicle to Michigan.

James has been a big racing fan since his first visit to MIS about 7 years ago. He has been to MIS three times and all for the same race (it kept getting rained out)

Pocono Speedway 2012

While driving along on the Pennsylvania interstate we saw a sign for the Pocono Speedway Exit and Mary immediately recognized the name since she is an avid Nascar Fan. We took the exit and went a few miles then came across the raceway. There is a real nice gift shop that seems to be open most of the year and sells souvenirs, shirts, etc.

The Pocono Speedway also known as The Tricky Triangle among Nascar fans, its one of the few tracks located in the mountains, actually in the Pocono Mountains in Long Pond, Pennsylvania to be specific. The race track is one of only three NASCAR tracks not owned by either Speedway Motorsports, Inc. or International Speedway Corporation, the dominant track owners in NASCAR. The other two tracks that hold this distinction are Dover International Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Nascar Cheerios Car 2011

We were out and about when Mom and James saw Clint Bowyer’s Cheerio car out front of our local Walmart. Both Mom and James are big time race fans and when their guy is close to winning a race, you can hear both of them rooting for that guy in the same way Dad roots for his football team to win.

Dad is not a big fan of Walmart and usually tries not to go. Dad does not like the lines and believes they should hire some extra tellers to shorten the lines to check out. However on this day Dad did accompany his family to Walmart and got the see the car himself so maybe Dad will think better of Walmart in the future.

Regardless this was a big time fun day for Mom and James and a very pleasant surprise, thank you Walmart for putting this show on.

Tony Stewart #20 Car 2008

Tony Stewart had just announced that he would be leaving Home Depot to start his own race team, so Home Depot had sort of a farewell tour for the Tony Stewart #20 car and it came to the Home Depot in Allen Park.

Tony Stewart is Mary’s favorite driver so she did not want to miss seeing the car, although she almost did, they were loading it up when we arrived but the crew was nice enough to give her a tour and she got to snap a couple pics off before they drove to their next stop.

Tony Stewart was replaced by Joey Logano who is an up and coming driver in his own rights, but Tony is still Mary’s favorite no matter what team he is racing for. He is an exceptional driver.

Nascar Race MIS 2007

We had never been to a Nascar race before, so we bought 3 tickets to the Sunday race at MIS. We drove out there but unfortunately it was raining and the race was cancelled, so we drove back home. The next day I took off from work and the 3 of us drove out to MIS and once again the race was cancelled due to rain so we drove back home.

I was slowly becoming an expert at driving to MIS, yet have never seen a race. finally on the third day, after a fog delay, the race was finally ran. Check out the pics of Jeff Gordon spun out in the mud and the crew having to push him out. Those are Mary’s favorites.

Some of the pics may look blurry, but its actually fog. These were 3 really rotten days for a Michigan August. After the race we stopped at a bar in Clinton the people behind us owned. We got a free dinner and brew/pop. Turned out to be a great day. The race was won by Kurt Busch.
