2023 Mothers Day

This Mothers day was a little different than ones in the past as we had to plan a few things out in advance, but I think we did great and everyone had a good time.

First, Grandma was in a rehab facility as she fell and broke her arm so that made things a little rougher on everyone.

Second, since we had to visit Grandma at the rehab place on Newburgh and Ford, Mary picked out a buffet earlier in the week to try around Wayne and Ford so that we could visit Grandma and then do our festivities.

Third, rather than going to an antique store, Mom went shopping for clothes near the rehab center.

The restaurant was great, Mom got a chance to go shopping and eat at her new restaurant so all in all it was a good Mothers day.

Mothers Day 2022

A beautiful spring day signified the official end of winter this Mothers day. We took Mom out to eat and then spent time putting flowers on the graves at the cemetery. We noticed that they made repairs to some of the graves but a couple more needed some work. We notified them about it and I am sure they will take care of it.

Mom also enjoyed a visit to her favorite antique store, Motor City Antiques – which is also in Flat Rock along with the cemetery.

Happy Birthday Mom

We wish Mom a very happy birthday and hope for many many more.

Mothers Day 2019

Mothers day started off the same way as others, with a picture of James and his Mom in front of the house. We picked up some flowers at Kroger on the way to the cemetery, the weather fighting back rain constantly throughout the day made for a windy day with little annoying drops of water from time to time. However we did manage to get the flowers out. We did take pics of all the graves with flowers so mission accomplished despite the poor weather.

Next was the antique store in Flint, which had added an airplane with skeletons to their display, and only at a cost of 2,500 you too can have a crashed airplane in your living room.

Next stop was a visit to Grandma’s as today was James visits Grandma day. After dropping James off, Mom went to a couple more antique stores before we finally stopped in for Mothers Day dinner.

A great Mothers day despite the weather.

Mothers Day 2018

Despite it being a very wet weekend with tons of rain and even some flooding in certain areas, we managed to show Mom a good time on Mothers day as we visited several antique stores, a coin shop (Mom collects half dollars) and had lunch at East Side Mario’s. James got to see Grandma as well as he dropped off a gift he had picked out for her while shopping earlier. A really great day despite the horrible wet weather, hopefully we can get back to sunny skies quickly.

Mothers Day 2017

The weather held out for us and we were able to make Mothers day a special day. First we went to Michigan Memorial to lay flowers on the graves, we got flowers that were just ready to bloom so we are hoping they last more than a couple days like the ones in the past. James did the water part of the job and while we were doing it we heard someone serenading a grave with a sax, I don’t remember ever seeing that before. I snapped a video of it so maybe you can hear some of what we heard.

After Michigan Memorial we went to the antique store in Flat Rock, then on to Red Robins where we had a great Mothers day lunch. All in all a great day for Mom.

Mothers Day 2016

The weather was perfect this Mothers day. The day began with a trip to Michigan Memorial Cemetery where we put flowers on everyone’s grave. The flowers were so new that they had not bloomed yet so they should look pretty good all week. We were very pleased to see how well maintained Raymond’s grave was compared to in the past. After the flowers we went and ate lunch at Red Lobster where Mom got crab linguini, Dad got the sailors platter, and James got crab legs. The next stop was the antique store where Mom got to do a little shopping, followed by a trip to Dearborn Market for some flowers. All in all a real great day!

Mothers Day 2015

The day started off by getting Aunt Peg’s phone working which got us off to a little late start but we managed to catch up and have a lot of fun. First stop on this sunny Sunday was Memorial cemetery where we put flowers on the family graves in honor of Mothers day. James did the water pouring and Mom did the flowers while Dad took pictures. Of special note were the flowers we put into Loretta Kleibers vase (James grandmother on his fathers side) because these flowers were actually planted by Loretta years ago. There is one spot in the backyard where these flowers she planted still come up every spring and so we thought we would give her flowers she planted from her own garden. Uncle Raymond’s grave once again had to have some upkeep, we hope to call the cemetery Monday to remind them to give Uncle Raymond a flag since they missed it last year.

After the visit to the cemetery we went to Mary’s favorite place, an antique shop in Flat Rock where Jame’s met a 200 year old cabinet he liked. Finally lunch time rolled around and we went to Red Lobster in Monroe then finished the afternoon shopping at Christmas Tree Shop and Walmart.

Hoover Elementary Mom and Son Game Night 2014

James and Mom attend the Mother and Son night at Hoover elementary. My understanding is it kind of makes up for the Father and Daughter dance held earlier in the year. Refreshments were available and their were many games and activities for the kids to play. James was quite proficient in explaining new games to Mom that she had never seen before and most of the time spent was playing games (I guess that’s why its called “game night”. James brought home a huge styro-foam airplane that we flew in the back yard that evening.

All in all a great time for everyone, except Dad of course.
