2023 Halloween Party

The Halloween party was a blast this year. This was the year of football at the party as there were several big games (OSU/Penn State, Michigan/Michigan State) and we had several tv’s throughout the house, basement and garage tuned to those games.

This year we ordered pizza from the new pizza place, Detroit Pizza Factory and used Mattis Deli for the sandwiches. The party went overtime due in part to the late start of the Michigan game (Michigan won 49-7).

This was the 13th Halloween party that we have had at our home and will certainly go down as one of the best. The house never got too crowded as we had a pretty constant flow of people coming and going throughout the day (we figure our home can comfortably seat maybe 25 people at a time max in the party area)

Halloween Party 2022

The weather was perfect for the 2022 Halloween party so we opened up the garage to give the people the option to be inside or outside for it. It worked out really well but we realize we cannot count on it in the future since the weather in October is usually pretty unpredictable.

We had our best turnout since the covid year (2020) and the party was a big success. We had three 6′ submarine sandwiches along with tons of pizza and some of the guests brought salad. James had a pretty good turnout from his VIP camp friends so everyone had a great time.

We look forward to doing it again next year! Continue reading “Halloween Party 2022”

James Halloween Party 2019

James just hosted his 9th Halloween Party and everyone had a blast. Once again the Magic Mirror was the big hit, along with a creepy rocking horse. Some of the new items this year were the skeleton boat (which took up the whole back room), the new Pennywise (just like in the movies, a new Pennywise comes out every 27-30 years or so), and a flying witch (who we named Rhiannon after the Fleetwood Mac song). The party went on most of the afternoon with people coming in and out all day so it never got too crowded. Playing the “IT” movie also kept some of the kids upstairs which also freed up space in the bedroom. We noticed that if there was a theme this year, it would be “IT” as a couple kids dressed up as the clown, there was an IT cake, and the movie played three times upstairs (to different audiences). I guess its true, everyone loves a clown.

James hopes to see everyone next year Oct 17th, 2020 for the big 10th party! Continue reading “James Halloween Party 2019”

James Halloween Party 2018

Once again we hosted James Halloween Party and once again everyone enjoyed themselves at the party. The party started at about 1:30 and ended about 7pm and had a parade a guests coming through during this time. James had plenty of friends show up, some from Lincoln Park, some from VIP Camp, some from Annapolis, and some of our neighbors which made for a great time. We had some new props on display trying to keep things looking fresh and keeping the surprises coming. One of our new items was an animated Michael Myers, something Mom had wanted since she first saw it at Manuels Taco. Also new this year were some evil toys in a box along with an evil rocking chair. All in all a great bunch of fun.

James Halloween Party 2017

This event is so much fun for the entire family as everyone does their part to make this party work. Believe it or not this is the 7th Halloween Party and it really has grown from its humble beginnings. Lots of time spent at garage sales and after Halloween sales throughout the years pays off this time of year. This is also one of the two busiest weeks of the year for Dad (the other is magic week in Colon MI) as he has to take vacation time to get everything done. We actually start working on the party after Labor day but we don’t really push it till the week before.

This year we had bonus surprise – a Magic Mirror Photo Booth which was a lot of fun, it was loaned to us by Dynamike the Magician who came by before the party to set everything up. James was able to assist our guests in getting their picture taken throughout the day, some of these pics are included in the gallery.

Thanks again to all the people who have supported this party both this year and in years past. The party was very well attended and a fun time was had by all.

James Halloween Party 2016

James and many of his friends attended the 6th installment of the Halloween party and this might have been the best one yet. Thanks to all the families who have supported this event this year and in the past. James really enjoys when his friends visit and it means an awful lot to him. Without a doubt it was the most well attended as kids and families from Lincoln Park High School, Lincoln Park Middle School, Dearborn Heights OW Best, Mixter, VIP Camp, etc. Remember if you know James you are invited to the party, as we have a difficult time keeping up with all of James’ friends do to his social circles changing and friends going to different schools and such.

James Halloween Party 2015

James had his annual Halloween party and everyone had a wonderful time. Its really hard to believe that this is his fifth year of doing this, and he (or should I say “we”) are still having fun. This year we had plenty of crafts for the kids, and also a few jokes and magic effects. We often say this isn’t really a party, more of a get together or open house since we don’t have any scheduled events or anything like that. Folks can stop in from 2pm till 7pm to say hi and can stay for a few minute or a few hours, whatever their schedule allows. James is very thankful to all who did attend and plans to have his 2016 Halloween Party on Oct 22nd, 2016.

James Halloween Party 2014

James held his fourth Halloween party for his friends, this time students from his new “middle” school attended as well as the elementary school. James was much more involved in this years party in everything from the planning and decorations to the beverages that were served. James had several highlights including playing UNO with his teacher and seeing both his new teachers and his past teachers. The costume of choice for the kids seemed to be Mario Brothers and Mom got several compliments on her pumpkin cake. The favorite decoration seemed to be the Exorcist although the graveyard and pumpkin bar got several compliments as well.

All in all a great day! James says next years party will be October 10th.

James Halloween Party 2013

James had his third annual Halloween Party and had a blast as several of his friends from Hoover and Tulane made it this year. We have the event from 2-6 pm so we never really got too crowded with folks coming in throughout the day. All together we had 20 guests and everyone got to chow on pizza and finger sandwiches along with cake and other things you aren’t supposed to eat (we did have a basket of fruit out as well). Kids played with Wii, pinball, novelties, and crafts.

We decorated the entire home including the new “zombie” room where the kids can go and play video games.

James is very proud of this event and did pretty well as host. He has already got the date for next years party which is the 18th of October. Thanks to all who came and all who helped out.

James Halloween Party 2012

James held his second Halloween Get Together in as many years on Oct 27th and he did a real nice job as host. The event lasted from 2 – 7 and we refer to it as a Get Together because there are no scheduled events or time frames. People can stop in and say hi and leave or people can stay for hours. No need for families to have to hurry to meet a time frame, simply show up and stay as little or as long as you like.

This year we decided to decorate the entire house for the party, even though the party was held mostly down stairs. Our bedroom became the “Exorcist room”, our office room became the “Bates Motel Office”, the kitchen became “Hades kitchen” etc.

The kids appeared to have a good time, playing games, making Halloween crafts, eating Halloween cake, etc. Big thanks to all who attended especially James’ teachers from Hoover Elementary. Grandma came by to help upstairs, unfortunately Aunt Peg could not make it but was there in spirit by providing a whole bunch of candy for the kids.

After the event, James continued to work on some of the projects and crafts in the Un-Living room.
