2024 Garage Sale
It was a hard decision but we had once again accumulated too much stuff.
Most of the stuff was older Halloween decorations and while they are old to us, they are a little collectible so when we have these sales we do a post on various forums and facebook letting people know that if they want a Universal Frankenstein they can come to the garage sale.
The Halloween stuff sold very well and we had excellent results with that. The Christmas stuff didn’t sell at all. All the clothes that did not sell were taken to Purple Heart charities where they will find a new home.
Good weather but its still tiring doing these sales. The profits went to James College fund for the most part.
Haunted Garage Sale 2023
Mom and Dad went to the annual Haunted Garage Sale in Dearborn Michigan. James had classwork and could not attend, but Mom and Dad represented the family well. We noticed that several people recognized us from past garage sales, both here and the ones we do in the summer to help raise money to buy more Halloween stuff.
Mom and Dad made several trips to the car with goodies and everything we bought was very reasonably priced (which is why we attend, its only $5 to get in).
There was a giant skeleton raffle going on for all attendees but unfortunately we did not win (we never won any of their raffles).
Haunted Garage Sale 2022
Another event which has become an annual tradition for us is the Halloween Garage Sale. While the venue changes every couple years the quality and fun remain constant. This year it was again held in Dearborn at the community center.
Once again we picked up some of the cartoon pictures for our small bathroom. We now have about a dozen of these pictures and while they are not really scary, they are funny in a Halloween way. For example the Charlie Brown gang sitting around a campfire at Camp Crystal Lake.
We also picked up some animatronic hangings for the hallway and several t-shirts. Continue reading “Haunted Garage Sale 2022” →
Haunted Garage Sale 2021
The Haunted Garage Sale was held at the Dearborn civic center next to the library on Michigan Avenue. James could not attend because he was in Saturday classes at Wayne County Community College but Dad went and picked up a few things.
Perhaps the neatest display was the apothecary display of various witches potions and spells all in bottles that looked like they were hundreds of years old when in fact they were probably only a few days old.
The event was well attended but still seemed not as busy as it used to be, perhaps its the pandemic or perhaps its just that the new venue is so much bigger than the other auditoriums.
First Garage Sale of 2020
Perhaps a sign that things are starting to get back to normal, we found a garage sale!
I don’t think Mom bought anything and James only bought a few little items but it was still nice to see a glimpse of normal especially in Michigan. Both James and Mom wore masks and social distancing was practiced (social distancing is staying 6-8 feet away from everyone which also limits the amount of people who can attend or visit any social function such as a party or garage sale).
Haunted Garage Sale 2019
The haunted garage sale has sure come a long way and we were glad to be there for the ride. When we first went there it was in Belleville, then it moved to an Ice Rink in Canton, this year it moved to the Dearborn Community and Performing Arts Center – the same location James Dad graduated from some 40 years ago.
The parking was much better than the ice rink (plus so much closer to our home than either of the other two locations) and we had a blast there checking out the new and old Halloween decorations We did not buy alot (no room to put the stuff) but as always enjoyed the atmosphere as there were many people dressed for the occasion including Pennywise. James got a couple Goosebump Books, Mom got some funny Halloween artwork, and Dad got a Godzilla T shirt.
US 12 Garage Sale 2019
Once again we all packed in the car, battled the traffic, and headed out to the 180 mile long US 12 garage sale. Traveling US 12 (aka Michigan Avenue near where we live) we noticed that there were not any garage sales until we reached Saline MI, once we hit Saline though there were plenty, most of them in large groups along US 12 rather than the individual garage sale. We did not actually buy anything till we hit the city of Clinton on US 12, where Dad got a lit up pumpkin for $2 and James got a sealed (new) set of photo albums. We continued our trek onto the Irish Hills where we found out that the barbecue restaurant there that we liked at the top of the hill was now a submarine shop, guess nothing last forever.

Haunted Garage Sale 2018
Once again we visited the haunted garage sale, this time in a new location – Canton. When we first went it was in Belleville (which is our favorite location because there was plenty of parking) then it moved to an ice rink in Wayne and finally this location. Parking was poor at best but we managed to make it in. James and Mom both found some great deals and the place had a good atmosphere. As usual there were many unusual items and a pretty good selection, however the parking is really starting to be an issue and we hope it improves as we were very lucky to get a spot and were actually about to give up. All in all a fun day as we all had fun!
Haunted Garage Sale 2016
This was a very busy day for the entire family as we left early for the annual Haunted Garage sale which took place at a new location in Westland on Cherry Hill near Newburgh. We don’t know if it was the new location or what but the place was packed and seemed to have many more dealers. We bought several signs for .50 cents and a buck and also picked up several items for Jame’s pirate room. We had to hurry through because we had to catch the Michigan game which started at noon. Luckily our neighbor gave us excellent directions on where to park and we made it to the pregame activities in plenty of time. On the way home from the Michigan game we stopped back at the garage sale just before they were closing and picked up a couple other items that the vendors figured was better to sell cheap than not at all. A very bush but wonderful day and a fun time was had by all.
Historical Dearborn Garage Sale 2016
Each year on the first Saturday in June Dearborn has its historical district garage sale. The main area is Edison street and surrounding blocks. These blocks are located between Beech, Nowlin, Military, and Monroe so for those familiar with our area drive down Monroe past Outer Drive toward Michigan Ave and turn left on Gregory or Edison which are a few blocks past Outer Drive (although you probably won’t be able to park on either street).
James and I went last year as well, Mom was working our own garage sale that weekend so this year was the first year we went together as a family and while we did not buy much, we saw some interesting sights and had a great time. Plus all the walking had to be good for us.
