After Halloween Sale 2017

This year many of our usual reliable places must not have ordered as much as the selection was sort of light this year. Cracker Barrel had 70% off, Michaels 80%, Walmart 70%, Spirit 50%, Halloween City 50%, Home Depot 50%, and CVS %50. We did not find any 90%. Spirit and Halloween City had disappointing years in our opinion so there wasn’t much we even wanted at either of these stores. The big winner for sales this year had to be Home Depot and Big Lots (we can throw in Walmart for the cheap skeletons which were less than Spirit or City at 50% off and just as good). The big winner for after Halloween sales had to be Cracker Barrel and Home Depot, both had good selections of their stock left. Walmart did good as well but you had to find the right Walmart, same with Michaels. Some Walmarts and Michaels literally had nothing left, others were great (Belleville Walmart and Allen Park Michaels saved the day in our opinion).

One of the interesting things we found were toilet paper holders that when you spin to get toilet paper they make scary sounds. We also picked up some more projections since the ones we used this year did fine. For materials we were able to get more crafts from Michaels and door covers from Walmart. Life size we only got a were wolf from CVS and a toxic zombie from Spirit.

After Halloween Sale 2016

I think that Halloween shops are getting wise to the fact that most of the Halloween are after Halloween and for half price. Lots of places did not have anything worth while left and we had to work extra hard to find what we did. We kind of saw this coming as items that were available in Sept were not reordered in stores. Fortunately we think we did ok, highlights were 80% off at Michaels on Halloween wreaths and two animated items that were store demo’s that we bought as is, but were allowed to try before bringing home. The demo’s were 65-75% off which made them worthwhile.

Our main goal is to get items that are used every year but not reusable, such as invitations, scene setters, napkins, plates etc. This year we did not find any scene setters but we did get a box of Spirit Halloween backgrounds for a $15 donation to charity. It is rolled up in the big brown box visable on the back left of these pics. In our opinion, the day after Halloween sales and garage sales are by far the best bet for Halloween.

After Halloween Sale 2015

This was a strange year for after Halloween specials because Nov 1st was a Sunday and we really did not know what to expect. For the second year in a row James was with us for the shopping and having more people is always helpful (Mom used to do this all by herself in the past). What we found was not as many great sales – Halloween City and Target only offered 30% off – but you could still find them if you looked (Michaels 80% sale was awesome). Spirit, Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart were all at 50% off so its still the normal percentage discount. Another bit of a surprise was the Christmas Tree Shop and Home Depot were 50% off before Halloween so it could be said Nov 1st no longer has exclusive rights on the Halloween sales. Regardless we did very well and declared Michaels this years winner (CVS was last year with 90% off). Some of the items were not perfect but all are quite fixable, most just needing new batteries or a wire soldered here and there. Once again, today was when Dad got his Christmas gifts which makes this extra special for me.

After Halloween Sale 2013

As I am sure it has been pointed out before on this blog, Dad get his Christmas and Birthday gift from Mom each year Nov 1, a shopping spree consisting of Kmart, Walmart, Joanns, and Spirit Halloween. This year was no exception, best deals we found were 70% off, but the rest was 50% off. However I think the best deal was the T-shirts, which were only a couple dollars each.

It may take a little longer to get decorations this way, but if you pack them away then open them a year later, its no different than if you bought them just then, this way you save a ton.

This year James got to join in on the fun as he was off from school for scheduled school admin stuff, so he picked out a few things as well including an Angry Bird Pig pumpkin carving set (you stick the parts into the pumpkin and you are done, no muss, no fuss).

After shopping Mom took the family out to Big Boy for the breakfast bar, a great day with lots of great values.

After Halloween Sale 2012

Each year Mom goes out and buys Dads birthday gifts at the After Halloween sale. People often ask where we get the Halloween props and the secret is to purchase it after Halloween when everything is 50 – 70%.

This year we went to the Halloween store the day before to see what they had left and decided on 3 new animations that we felt would fit into our display. The next day we got there about 50 minutes early to wait for the half price sale to begin (we were third in line).

Our 3 main items were “The Howler” werewolf to go with our other werewolf. The “Popping Goblin” which is really nothing more than one of those plastic pumpkins, except the back moves out and a Goblin pops out of it.

The Witch from the Wizard of Oz was the final one on our list. The Halloween store had two left and when Mary lifted the top one, another person immediately lifted the one below hers so it took about two seconds to sell out. Good thing we got there early and waited.

We also stopped at Jo Ann Fabrics and picked up some Halloween crafts and decorations at 70% off and Marshalls where Mary bought a bunch of stuff for $12.

James came home from school and one of the Hoover teachers (we don’t know if the teacher wants us to use her name or not) gave us a haunted house cookie jar!

Finally, KMart had one Jason left at 60% off and that concluded our after Halloween sale. Our next purchases for Halloween will be in the Spring when the garage sales come around again.

After Halloween Sale 2011

Once again Mom got Dads birthday and Christmas gift the day after Halloween. With 50% sales on Halloween items at Walmart and Spirit, Mary made out like a bandit, especially at Walmart where she got a ton of cool stuff half off their already low price!

We stocked up on Halloween garland and the stone dungeon scene setters that we used in the living room. Mary got a cup cake server (which has a small pirate skull on it in the picture) that she really wanted, especially since cupcakes went over well at the party. James got some shirts and a couple pirate props (James really liked Pirates of the Caribbean), and dad got his Christmas and Birthday gifts early again with several Halloween props and animated figures.

After Halloween Sale 2010

There was after Halloween sales everywhere, in some cases Halloween decorations were 90% off. Mary takes advantage of this each year and gets Dad’s birthday gifts a little early, (last year we got the skeleton peanut vendor after Halloween from Walmarts). Hopefully not too many people realize the savings so that we can continue to save each year. Only problem is you have to wait a year to use the stuff but we think it’s worth the wait. Besides, there is no way we could afford to pay the retail price on this stuff, it adds up quickly.
