  • 2026 Tiger Game and Fireworks

It was a rainy day but an exciting game as the Tigers came back from a 4-0 deficit to tie, but the bullpen gave up the winning run.

The biggest roar from the crowd came when they flashed the Pistons had just taken the lead on the Orlando Magic after being down by over 20.

After the game, their was a great fireworks show which looked great with the new skyscraper in the background.

Thanks to Nick and his Mom for the great seats, right above the Tigers dugout.

  • Belle Isle 2025

What do you do when the power goes out? You make the best of it with a trip around town. This time we went to Big Boys for their breakfast bar for the first time in over a year, then we made our way shopping in Trenton. With the power still off we went through Elizabeth park but even then the power was still off, so finally we made our way to Belle Isle and enjoyed the sights of the island. Eventually while we were on the island the power did come on and so we finished up our day in Detroit and finally went home to a house with power. Luckily we never opened the refrigerator or freezer so all our food was still cool/cold. A very interesting day for sure.

  • 3rd Tiger Game in 2024

The Tigers are in a wildcard race, so we had that to cheer for when we went with Nick and his family. It was Nicks birthday which made the event that much more festive.

The pregame activities were great. Everyone got a free shirt to start. Then James got a foul ball during batting practice, and James was on Jumbo screen twice this game, a record for him. This was also Latin America night and their were some awesome dances and a tribute to all the Latin players and their contribution to baseball and the Tigers. Alex Aveilia through out the first pitch.

Unfortunately the Tigers ran into some strong pitching and did not score until the 9th inning (2 runs), but unfortunately Baltimore scored 4 runs in the first 8 innings to win the game 4-2.

Beautiful night in downtown Detroit, and all is not lost as the Twins were losing big time when we left the park. Big thanks to Nick and his family for inviting us.

  • 2024 Total Eclipse

The eclipse in Detroit was about 98% but James wanted to see it at 100% which meant a trip South to Ohio. The traffic was heavier than ever on our way to Ohio to watch the eclipse. Specifically Liberty Ohio where the Drive in Theatre called Field of Dreams resides.

The first picture is a herd of deer we saw between Wauseon Ohio and Liberty, but the rest are pics of the eclipse we saw at the Drive in. They had a DJ playing requests and Mom got to hear a Toby Keith song she likes. The flea market there had about 15 booths and we ended up buying some honey and a pumpkin that was made by a 3D printer. While there were plenty of activities going on we took pictures of the sun, both with a regular camera and a filtered camera. The Eclipse started at about 2pm and was total at about 12 after 3 so these pics were taken during this period of time. At the end James took a few more showing the sun coming out of the eclipse.

All in all it was a great day and an incredible experience.

  • 2023 Nicks Birthday Party at Comerica Park

James friend Nick held another birthday party at Comerica Park and once again the Tigers won. This means it was a clean sweep since his birthday last year with the Tigers winning all the games Nick and James attended in the past year (4 or 5 games). For a team well under 500 this is an achievement. The evening was beautiful despite 94 being shut down for construction which caused us a little delay. After the game we did a little tour of the area since James school is in this location. James took a couple pics in front of his school – the Mike Illitch School of Business. Also this evening Dave Chappelle was doing a live concert so the town was really buzzing this evening. A great evening and a great finale to our summer activities.

  • 2023 Tiger No Hitter at Comerica Part

Tigers got a no hitter on this wet day at Comerica Park. James met up with his friend Nick who’s family kindly invited us to join them at the park. The rain really made things miserable but it was fascinating seeing the grounds crew work the field to keep it playable. James’ Dad had been to many Tiger games but could not ever remembering being at one that was rain delayed, probably because when James’ Dad was growing up the Tiger games were relatively cheap to attend and there was always room in the bleachers so if it was a nice day, you just hopped on the bus at Grindley (now the closest bus stop is Michigan Ave) and went to the game. If it was raining you watched it on TV. James got so well he began to feel sick so unfortunately we had to leave before the no hitter was complete, but that was ok as we were there for all the scoring that took place. We ended up watching the no hitter on TV.

  • Mackinaw Third Visit (Sept 2022)

Its hard to believe, but Dad made it to Mackinaw an unprecedented third time this year, this time due to work. A customer in Saulte Ste Marie Canada needed help with a tester and Dad was sent to take care of it.

Dad has been to Mackinaw in the winter, spring, and summer, but never in the fall and it was very interesting to him because you could see the tourist area starting to get a little ready for Halloween. Many stores were closed but enough of them were open that Dad could pick up a few souvenirs.

    Always beautiful in any season.

  • Mackinaw Island 2022

The weather was still cloudy and about 55-65 degrees so it was a very comfortable trip to the island. Once again we took the ferry across, although we did not remember the $35 charge to park. This year we stayed on main street and shopped as we felt it was too “buggy” to go into the woods as there were tons of mayflies flying around.

Stopped at Joann Fudge to get some maple fudge for Mom, plus lots of t shirts for the family at monster tee. We noticed the magic shop was gone, replace by what we think was a jewelry store.

We noticed it was just starting to get busy as this was the Friday of Memorial day. We were happy coming up earlier so we missed most of the tourist who came up for the weekend.

  • 32,000 Piece Puzzle Completed

When the pandemic isolated James from school and other social events, he spent a year working on one of his favorite hobbies, puzzles. James had a 32,000 piece puzzle of New York City and he began putting this together.

He divided the puzzle into 8 sections and then divided each of those sections into 1 square foot sections which he glued together. He then took the entire package to Swapka field and worked under the pavilion for about two hours putting this puzzle together. Since it was too big for our garage, this was the first time James saw his puzzle completely together.
