  • Fort Niagara Museum (American Side) 2004

There were many goofy tourist traps in Niagara (all of Clifton Hill for example) but we found this museum on the American side and it had some interesting artifacts for sure. I think we were the only visitors, in fact the entire American side was like a ghost town, being so late in the season for them.

We drove home the long way, which is to say we crossed into New York, drove through Buffalo, Into PA, then through Ohio, adding about 3 hours to the trip. However it gave us a chance to see a little bit of America as well as Canada on this vacation.

  • Greenfield Village Motor Muster 2004

There was a car show going on at the Village so we thought James might enjoy looking at all the classic cars. Mary is a big time car fan so living in the Detroit area is great for her, there is a car show nearly every weekend somewhere in the state and many of the shows that we go to aren’t even planned, we just happen to be in the right place at the right time.

James seemed to enjoy getting outside for a bit as well, it was a brutal winter and not a good spring either. Hopefully we will have a good summer. Today made up for a lot of questionable weather days in a season known as Spring, hopefully we have a great summer.

  • Stagecoach Stop Museum & Wild West Show 2004

Stagecoach Stop – Irish Hills Michigan, a fun place to bring the family for a day.

Its been a long and rough winter and we wanted to get out and get some good fresh spring air, so we went to the Irish Hills which is only about an hour drive away. James had no problem with the ride, in fact he seems to enjoy riding in the car.

We let James play in the play area for a bit, then explored the old west town. They have a great collection of antiques on the wall and plenty for a family to do. We watched a very entertaining re-enactment of a bank heist that even got a smile out of James.

  • Greenfield Village & Henry Ford Museum 2003

James was only a few weeks old when we took him to the museum and village. It was a beautiful sunny day and the doctors suggested to give him as much sunlight as possible before winter sets in. James had jaundice when he was born and the best thing for that is being out in the sunlight.

With Fall and Winter rapidly approaching it would seem we better get him as much sunlight as possible because he certainly won’t get much in the harsh Michigan winter. The people at the gate said James was the youngest visitor they have had in weeks.

Below is a video of James growing up from stroller to toddler at Greenfield Village.

  • Greenfield Village Henry Ford Museum 2002

This was Mary’s first visit to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn MI. Mary loves cars and antiques and really loves seeing the sites at the museum.

I on the other hand was literally raised at Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, at least once but usually twice a year there would be field trips from my school to the village or museum depending on the season. This year the big attraction was the Rosa Parks bus and they were working on a new airplane exhibit which will feature some of the most famous airplanes in American history.

Some of the more gruesome exhibits are the chair Lincoln was assasinated in and the car Kennedy was assasinated in.
