Made In Michigan Market at Canterbury Village 2019

We visited the “Made in Michigan Market” which was held in Canterbury Village. This was the first time I ever saw the Canterbury Village parking lot full, with additional parking across the street. Fortunately we were lucky and got a good spot as someone was pulling out. Lots of interesting booths and we decided to sign up with home delivery for the Free Press as they gave us Kroger gift cards to do so. It should be fun for James to get a morning paper to read as we think he will enjoy it. Mom got a free umbrella for signing up too, its design was based on the comic section of the Free Press.

One sad note, we found out the Department 56 store was closed, we purchased many of our Halloween display ceramics there and it will be missed.

After we left Canterbury we visited Great Lakes Crossing which is only a few miles away, a good time was had by all.

Marshall Blues Festival 2019

After missing this event due to weather and date changing, we were back on for the Blues Festival which takes place annually in Marshall Michigan. This event used to take place two weeks after the Fourth of July, now it takes place two weeks prior to the Fourth of July. This means the Halloween decorations are not yet out at Cracker Barrel which used to be part of this trip. While Mom was at the Blues Festival, James and his Dad took a trip to Colon, the Magic Capital, to see what was going on there, then stopped at the Marshall K Mart as finding an open K mart anywhere is rare. The day ended with a feast at Los Tres Amigo’s in Jackson.

Autorama 2019

Autorama, also known as “World of Wheels”, made its way to Detroit’s Cobo Hall this weekend and James and his family made the most of their visit to the “D”. However, todays visit was a complete surprise to the family as Dad surprised them with tickets to the event (AKA America’s Premier Custom Show Car Series). James and his mother did not even know where they were going till we were in the car on 94 and well on our way to Detroit. While they had plenty of hot rods there as advertised, we were very happy to find lots more including plenty of toys and hard to find collectible. Mom picked up a t shirt and James picked up a metal Ford plaque while we were looking the cars (including the ultimate car, the Bat Mobile), Its been a while since we have been to Cobo Hall in Detroit, and we were surprised to find out that the Hall of Fame plaques had been moved since our last visit.

Lincoln Park Days Festival 2018

Big festival in Lincoln Park with tons of rides, midways, and even a small petting zoo. James visited to support his VIP camp and bought some lottery tickets at the VIP Camp booth. James participated in the Police frisbee throw and won a frisbee, he also got a free water bottle at one of the booths so he was very happy about that. Later we visited the petting zoo and were totally impressed by two turtles that they had there (there were other animals but the turtles were pretty cool). On the way home we stopped at Sears, then picked up lunch at Wendy’s, all in all a very fun time.

Abbotts 81st Magic Get Together 2018

Wow, did we have a good time at the Abbotts Get Together. Unlike last year, the fireworks were not rained out on Friday and looked awesome. The weather was perfect, perhaps a little on the hot side as it hit 91 degrees on Saturday, but it wasn’t that unbearable heat that sometimes happens in August. We saw several magic shows, the Friday night firework show, street performers, magic dealers, and some of the best magicians in the world. If you have not had a chance to see a Get Together show you should make sure to plan for one next year, as the shows are really incredible but the atmosphere is where the real magic is, just a wonderful bunch of people having fun doing magic.

Abbotts 80th Magic Get Together 2017

We have two weeks each year that are just exhausting due to having so much fun. The week of James’ Halloween Party is one of those weeks and the other is Magic Week in Colon Michigan which features the Abbott Magic Get Together (also James has his VIP camp finale this week so it is truly a busy week for us). Magicians everywhere performing on the streets, performing in tents, performing on stage, and performing in shops. We have been coming to these since James was 2 so he loves it and in that time has been called up on stage twice by magicians to help.

Woodhaven Festival 2017

Woodhaven is right next to Trenton just off I75 and each year they have an awesome summer festival that has to be seen to believed. This year was special for James as he got to see the Side Show folks he had met earlier in the summer performing for real (they will also be performing at the Magic Get Together a month from now). The banner line for the side show is literally gigantic as you can see from some of these pics. The carnival is free to attend, parking is reasonable and close, and a great time was had by all.

Bel Air Carnival 2017

James and family went out to the Bel Air Carnival on the Detroit side of 8 mile across from Warren around Van Dyke road. We all went and enjoyed seeing the “Girl to Gorilla” sideshow that they had there, and James got to go on a few of the rides. The day was wet and cold so the attendance was down, but we had a great time anyway.

James enjoyed the house of mirrors but probably not as much as his dad, seeing 10 or more James reflected back from the mirrors was kind of fun. The mirror room looked crowded yet he was the only one in there.

Cedar Point HalloWeekends Last Day 2016

Today was the last day Cedar Point is open, and despite early rain (we did not arrive till about 2pm) we made the trek down to Sandusky and had a great time. Our friend Dynamike the Magician joined us and we were surprised how many people at the park recognized Detroit’s Master Magician. The park crowd was mild but increased as the weather improved throughout the afternoon, one of the roller coasters wait was over an hour while others were only 15 minutes. Cedar Point was still decked out in Halloween gear so it was a perfect place to be the day before Halloween.

We saw that Cedar Point had begun tearing down the Mean Streak roller coaster which made for an interesting picture since you don’t see many pics of a roller coaster with part of it missing. Afterwards we finished off the evening at Ryans buffet in Sandusky and felt good that we decided to go rather than watch the Lions loss to Houston, consider this day seized.

When you are ready to leave Cedar Point do so quietly so that you don’t wake the giant Ogre up!

Cedar Point Saturday Halloweekends 2016

We had been told by friends in Ohio that Saturdays are not a good day to visit Cedar Point due to the crowd and they were certainly right as this beautiful day in the midwest brought out many more visitors than our visit last Sunday on an equally beautiful day. While the lines were long James managed to hit a few rides and the Gemini roller coaster (which was closed when we first walked by) opened up and James and his dad only had about a twenty minute wait to get on the coaster which was great. We figured this might be our last visit this year so we picked up souvenirs in the form of Cedar Point hoodies for all of us.

Just when you thought it was safe, this rock monster comes to life during Cedar Points Halloweekends.
