After Dads class in New York, we all began the long trek home from our weekend excursion but little did we know we were to walk into a big surprise. About 3 miles of I80 is the Pocono Speedway and we thought we would stop in and check out the souvenirs. What a big surprise we got when asked if we wanted a tour of the raceway. When asked how much the tour cost we were told it was free. We went on the tour which took about an hour and boy was it ever great. The tour guide even gave us a ride around the track which we videotaped, and showed us everything about the race track including its self contained power source using a gigantic array of solar cells which powers everything at the race track. The Pocono Speedway is the last privately owned race track in the Nascar circuit which is why the tour was free, the owners want people to be happy and come back…and we will!

Vacation Car Pictures 2018
Our extended weekend vacation involved much travel as we went through Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York. With this much driving it was natural for us to take a few pictures from the car, some are of the tunnel in PA, others are a scenic lookout in New Jersey, and still others are driving through Delaware and Baltimore, plus a bear at the PA rest area and an old style pay phone also at a PA rest area (James never saw one). One of our favorites was a rainbow over the Tappan Zee Bridge as we crossed into Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. Pretty much a hodge podge of pics but we had alot of fun taking them.Folks who are familiar with the television show Sleepy Hollow should know that there were not any sightings of the Headless Horseman on this trip.

Pocono Speedway 2012
While driving along on the Pennsylvania interstate we saw a sign for the Pocono Speedway Exit and Mary immediately recognized the name since she is an avid Nascar Fan. We took the exit and went a few miles then came across the raceway. There is a real nice gift shop that seems to be open most of the year and sells souvenirs, shirts, etc. The Pocono Speedway also known as The Tricky Triangle among Nascar fans, its one of the few tracks located in the mountains, actually in the Pocono Mountains in Long Pond, Pennsylvania to be specific. The race track is one of only three NASCAR tracks not owned by either Speedway Motorsports, Inc. or International Speedway Corporation, the dominant track owners in NASCAR. The other two tracks that hold this distinction are Dover International Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

A Drive Through Pennsylvania 2012
About half the drive from Michigan to New York is through Pennsylvania which has the highest elevation on I80 East of the Mississippi. The terrain is nothing but hills and is very beautiful to say the least. We were fortunate enough to see the sun rise in this beautiful country and the next day watch the sun set in the same terrain. Some of the highlights of the trip were a stop in the Pocono’s to visit the Nascar speedway there. Mary has often said the only Nascar track she has ever seen in person was Michigan so now she can no longer say that. Also the Deleware Water Gap, a National recreation area where the Deleware river cuts through the Appalachian mountains on the border of Pennsylvania and New Jersey was quite spectacular. The early morning mist settling in the valleys as we drove through the high land of Pennsylvania was truly beautiful and haunting. -
Liberty Bell and Football Game In Philadelphia 1997
Friends who I went to grade school with are affectionately known as “the little friends”. Here are some of the little friends on a trip to Philadelphia to do a little bit of sight seeing, eat some cheese steak sandwiches, drink some beer, and watch a Lions game (or I should say a Lions loss, never saw a team like this that loses so much but has such great talent like Barry Sanders). The tailgate party by far was the highlight of the day, did not really want it to end but eventually we had to go into the stadium and watch the Lions. Turns out the game of kick the can in the parking lot was better than the actual game in the stadium.
