On a cold February day we took a little jaunt to Canterbury Village to check out the shops. In a week they will be hosting a home garden show so we felt this would be a good time to visit. Everyone found something unique at these stores to bring home. Olde World Canterbury Village and Aldridge’s Always Christmas celebrated it’s grand opening October 1, 1993. The original Wildwood Farm buildings used by the Hadrills, Scripps and Keating have all been carefully restored and continue to be productive while preserving an important chapter in Michigan’s history.

Great Lakes Crossing 2019
Presidents Day is a day off for both James and his Dad so the whole family took advantage of this and headed out to Pontiac for Great Lakes Crossing. We thought about going to Frankenmuth or Canterbury Village but both had malls that were primarily outside and it was 27 degrees outside so we decided on Great Lakes Crossing which is the largest mall in Michigan. It is truly gigantic and you could really spend a whole day seeing everything. Mom picked up some items at TJ Maxx and James found a controller for his Nintendo game that he got. No big purchases but alot of fun for a mid winters day.

Labor Day Car Show 2018
While shopping at the Allen Park plaza (where the old VA used to be) we ran across this unique car show that had a huge big screen TV at the center and many unique vehicles. The big screen tv was showing American Graffiti and was pretty visible despite it being daylight outside. Many official vehicles were there from Allen Park such as the police car which James really liked. Our favorite was a creepy car with a coffin in it which seemed ripe for Halloween. All in all a great start to our Labor Day weekend. -
Lincoln Park Days Festival 2018
Big festival in Lincoln Park with tons of rides, midways, and even a small petting zoo. James visited to support his VIP camp and bought some lottery tickets at the VIP Camp booth. James participated in the Police frisbee throw and won a frisbee, he also got a free water bottle at one of the booths so he was very happy about that. Later we visited the petting zoo and were totally impressed by two turtles that they had there (there were other animals but the turtles were pretty cool). On the way home we stopped at Sears, then picked up lunch at Wendy’s, all in all a very fun time. -
First Halloween Store Open For 2018
This year our first Spirit Halloween store that was opened and reasonably stocked was in Canton MI. The fact that its mid August did not deter the family as we made a quick visit and Mom bought a T shirt (she had a 20% off coupon she got in email). James really liked the blue fog (we took several pictures of it) and says he wants that for his Birthday, not sure how practical that is but the important thing was we all had a little Halloween fun at a very early stage of the year. -
Colon Car Show 2018
Colon Car Show was going on during the Get Together and featured many different classic cars and vehicles. What was really nice was the Police and Fire Dept were there displaying their vehicles as well which was cool. James used his allowance to buy a Fire Dept T shirt which as nice as he thanked them for their service. Mom is the big car fan and she simply loved this, especially since we didn’t even know it was going on. Hopefully it will be on the schedule for next year for sure. -
Abbotts 81st Magic Get Together 2018
Wow, did we have a good time at the Abbotts Get Together. Unlike last year, the fireworks were not rained out on Friday and looked awesome. The weather was perfect, perhaps a little on the hot side as it hit 91 degrees on Saturday, but it wasn’t that unbearable heat that sometimes happens in August. We saw several magic shows, the Friday night firework show, street performers, magic dealers, and some of the best magicians in the world. If you have not had a chance to see a Get Together show you should make sure to plan for one next year, as the shows are really incredible but the atmosphere is where the real magic is, just a wonderful bunch of people having fun doing magic. -
VIP Camp 2018
James had another fantastic year at VIP Camp. His favorite part was zooma dancing right before a thunderstorm knocked out the power to the Taylor Sports Complex where the camp was taking place. This year had many field trips including Turtle Cove, Skore Lanes (two trips including the last day party), Texas Roadhouse, Movie Theatre (where he saw Transylvania 3), Heritage park, and the Sterling Heights Play Place. All in all a great success, big thanks to the staff at VIP camp and all James’ friends that made is such a nice memory for him. -
Santa’s Magical Forest 2017
Hard to believe its been a year since we last visited this wonderful Christmas display at Heritage park in Taylor. The weather was a balmy 18 degrees and their was about 4 inches of snow on the ground, so the stage was set for a very memorable Christmas visit. James got to see his friends from VIP camp (although one was absent who we all missed, Jame’s friend Sammy who he had known since Hoover Elementary, passed away unexpectedly in late November). -
Thanksgiving at Frankenmuth 2017
We spent the last day (Sunday) of the Thanksgiving holiday up in Frankenmuth MI. Bronners was so crowded we actually could not find a parking place so we skipped ahead to the Mall – where carolers were performing Christmas songs – and had lunch at the Bavarian Inn. We sat in the Snow White room (which is unusual, we usually sit in the little red riding hood room) and were entertained with live music and a visit from Santa. We then went back to Bronners which was a little less crowded and enjoyed the sites and sounds of Christmas.
