Mothers day and Fathers day

  • 2026 Mothers Day

The end of an incredibly busy week (which included a Tiger Game, our annual optical exams, two graduations) climaxed with a Mothers day celebration on Sunday.

The day began with Mom getting a few gifts (including a bouquet of flowers a day earlier), then James and Mom took their traditional picture in front of the house.

A trip to Moms favorite restaurant was next, James paid for the meal. Upon returning home Mom watched her races then opened more gifts after the race.

A great day was had by all.

  • Fathers Day 2025

What a fun day this was for Dad with all sorts of great gifts (including Fathers Day Dinner of course). Thanks to Mom and James for coordinating the events and making this such a special moment.

  • Mothers Day 2025

Mothers day was perfect and began with a perfect day weather wise!

It began with Mom opening gifts in the morning. After the gifts, we packed up and went out to Mom’s favorite China Buffet and everyone enjoyed a super meal. After eating we took Mom out shopping.

We came back home in time to watch the Sunday race, then went back out for Ice Cream at the Dairy Queen (which was James’ treat). All in all a great day and a great time was had by all.

  • Mothers Day 2024

    Happy Mothers Day

What a perfect Spring Day for Mothers day, after the somewhat dreary day we had yesterday. This year we took Mom out to probably her favorite restaurant, an Oriental Buffet in Canton that has crab legs and all sorts of seafood. We found this place while Grandma was in a rehab center a few blocks away. Mom had a 15% off coupon which always makes a day brighter.

This year was a little sad as it was the first one without Grandma, but we were sure she was looking down on us this day.

  • 2023 Mothers Day

This Mothers day was a little different than ones in the past as we had to plan a few things out in advance, but I think we did great and everyone had a good time.

First, Grandma was in a rehab facility as she fell and broke her arm so that made things a little rougher on everyone.

Second, since we had to visit Grandma at the rehab place on Newburgh and Ford, Mary picked out a buffet earlier in the week to try around Wayne and Ford so that we could visit Grandma and then do our festivities.

Third, rather than going to an antique store, Mom went shopping for clothes near the rehab center.

The restaurant was great, Mom got a chance to go shopping and eat at her new restaurant so all in all it was a good Mothers day.

  • Fathers Day 2022

Fathers day arrived with plenty of gifts (including 4th of July decorations for the lawn) for Dad and a special football cake that has sort of become a legend in our family.

The legend of the football cake happened in the mid to late nineties when the cake was given as a joke to James’ Grandma. James’ grandma was not amused but instead of being upset with James Dad who bought the cake and instigated the whole thing, she got upset with James’ Aunt Peg for letting James Dad buy the cake in the first place.

We did have a nice cake already for her so it was not too big of a deal, but the family always remembers that her daughter got all the blame for the football cake even though she had nothing to do with it.

    Happy Fathers Day

  • Mothers Day 2022

A beautiful spring day signified the official end of winter this Mothers day. We took Mom out to eat and then spent time putting flowers on the graves at the cemetery. We noticed that they made repairs to some of the graves but a couple more needed some work. We notified them about it and I am sure they will take care of it.

Mom also enjoyed a visit to her favorite antique store, Motor City Antiques – which is also in Flat Rock along with the cemetery.

  • Fathers Day 2020

Well I was promised a surprise for Fathers day and I certainly got one, a kitty litter cake. It was actually delicious as it was made from several European style chocolates including German and was delicious despite its look. The nasty turds in the kitty litter cake were made from tootsie rolls and were the only thing I simply could not bring myself to eat, so they were decorative only.

Mom got the recipe on the internet and made a special trip to the store to get the ingredients (going to the store these days is no fun).

All in all it was a great day with Boneyard takeout – about an $80 meal – to enjoy.

  • Mothers Day Visit To Michigan Memorial 2020

With the covid restrictions loosening up a bit we decided to do our annual trek to Michigan Memorial. We did not get flowers as they are probably not considered essential although we probably could have if we wanted to go through the hassle of masks and stuff.

We were happy to see flags at the veteran graves as we heard the boy scouts were no longer doing it, however Raymond did not get a flag and we all felt bad as we have many veterans in the family but he is the only one who did not return and was killed in action during WW2.

  • Mothers Day 2019

Mothers day started off the same way as others, with a picture of James and his Mom in front of the house. We picked up some flowers at Kroger on the way to the cemetery, the weather fighting back rain constantly throughout the day made for a windy day with little annoying drops of water from time to time. However we did manage to get the flowers out. We did take pics of all the graves with flowers so mission accomplished despite the poor weather.

Next was the antique store in Flint, which had added an airplane with skeletons to their display, and only at a cost of 2,500 you too can have a crashed airplane in your living room.

Next stop was a visit to Grandma’s as today was James visits Grandma day. After dropping James off, Mom went to a couple more antique stores before we finally stopped in for Mothers Day dinner.

A great Mothers day despite the weather.
